Poetry Out Loud is a nation-wide recitation contest for high school students. Each school receives 5 hours of coaching and/or judging from regional poets. Airport exhibit - Golik New Exhibit at the Airport Gallery
On the Go: The Traveling Sketchbooks of Artists, Architects and Poets

The exhibit opens at the Sacramento International Airport Art Gallery on Thursday, September 16, 2010 and runs through January 3, 2011.  The exhibition includes sketches in a variety of mediums by artists Gina Werfel and Hearne Pardee, both University of California, Davis Art professors, Sacramento artists Gregory Kondos, Stephanie Taylor, and Theo Samuels, Napa area architect Jay Golik and Julia Connor, Sacramento Poet Laureate 2005-2009. Scarpa Restoration thumbnail Beloved Public Artwork Restored
At South Side Community Park

Commissioned in 2005 by the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, "Port of Call: Earth" by Joe Scarpa is located in South Side Community Park, 2115 6th Street.  The sculpture is a modified, vintage trailer that is over 20 feet high and 16 feet wide.  It is populated with ceramic "aliens" who have converted the trailer into their spaceship.   The sculpture was cleaned and repaired in August.  See Pictures>
