Interior Design "Defined"
A newsletter that keeps you informed of current trends in Interior Design and related fields.

As Halloween is upon us and Thanksgiving but a mere few weeks away,  if you are having company this year it's time to get your house ready. Whether its thinking of a new color theme for your festive table, rearranging the guestroom or just giving your home a thorough cleaning, now is the perfect time to  think about that before it's too late

thanksGetting Creative... with Centerpieces

I never think ahead for this but now is a great time to create a table centerpiece  composed of materials from nature. Take some dried grasses, a few hydrangeas, and other plant materials - use them in their natural state or spray paint them to fit your color scheme.  Place them in one container or many that might work down the center of the table.  Then you can tuck in fresh fruit or gourds for another dash of color.  Save the dried materials now and put them together just before the holiday.

Fireplace Facelift

Do you have all the fireplace tools you need for the upcoming cold weather andironsseason?  How about a new screen,  tongs or perhaps some unusual andirons? There are many different styles you can select from.

A great place is Adam's Fireplace Shop in Cambridge. It is a treasure trove for new and antique pieces. Even people with gas fireplaces can indulge. Wood is also available on site.

  Powder Room Pick-me-uppowder

The powder room is a small space that has a big impact. If looking to spruce up your "public" bathroom, I have a few suggestions. First, a new dual flush 1.28 gallon capacity toilet (see article below) will help update this room and conserve water as well. A new faucet, light fixture or unusual mirror can be a great new focal point in a small space. Another way to impress your holiday guests....try a deep paint color on the walls. You can change only one thing or several without doing a complete remodel to get an entirely new look!

Water: waste not want not
Daily household water usage can really add up. Diswashers, faucets, showerheads and toilets all contribute to that high water bill.Dramatically reduce your home water usage by following a few simple tips:
-Replace older, less efficient toilets with 1.28 gallon high-efficiency toilets which can save up to 16,500 gallons of water per year
-Swap out your old showerhead with a water conserving one and save more than 7700 gallons of water per year
--Make sure your dishwasher is fully loaded before running it to maximize the dishes cleaned in a cycle

More details on these topics can be found on the Abbott Interiors Facebook page Find us on Facebook. This will be updated frequently and include additional items.  Please contact me with any questions or if you would like to get together for a consultation.
