USDA Rural Development - Committed to the future of rural communities
Building North Dakota

State Director Jasper Schneider

The future of North Dakota is the focus of an upcoming conference called North Dakota 2.0. With our state experiencing unprecedented success, now is the time to be strategic and discuss what we want the next chapter of North Dakota to look like. In other words, how do we ensure that we have long-term economic success as well as preserve the high quality of life that has always made our state special.

ND 2.0 is an initiative focused on bringing together North Dakotans to network, learn about potential opportunities and contribute to the continued success of the state.  ND 2.0 is the beginning of an era; it is about persevering and empowering motivated individuals to capitalize on our state's abundance of opportunities to ensure North Dakota's better days are still ahead.

Nationally recognized speakers including Rich Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes magazine, and Diane Smith, author of "The New Rural", along with statewide leaders from a variety of organizations who will facilitate and participate in the day's events. Fellow lead sponsors include Advanced Engineering, Blue Cross Blue Shield, AARP, Basin Electric and North Dakota Farmers Union.

I hope to see you there.

NORTHWOOD
Northwood Manor Apartments

Northwood Manor

Northwood Manor recently celebrated the completion of renovations to the exterior and interior of the building.  The apartment complex includes twelve affordable one-bedroom units, a common area and community laundry room.

The apartments are owned and managed by Lutheran Social Services Housing, Inc. and subsidized by the Rural Development program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture as homes for families and senior citizens with moderate incomes.  The renovations included a new roof and a total remodel of the inside. The units feature finishes in contemporary colors with new kitchens and flooring throughout. Units have also been improved to accommodate those with physical accessibility needs.

USDA Rural Development orignally provided financing for the complex to be built in 1981.  Through a preservation program, USDA Rural Development was also able to help finance the renovation project.  It is a priority for the agency to provide access to quality housing so communities like Northwood are vibrant, attractive places to live.
