Fit mango Newsletter
Greetings!
me and kids
Welcome to our winter edition of   'Get Real'.

It's been a fantastic term.  We have seen some amazing results (hooray all those Mothers Day run girls!) and incredible transformations.

The term has seen fit mango also go from strength to strength - with the launch of our website and our wonderful turn-out at the Mothers Day Classic to name a couple.

Term three is almost upon us!  Incredible how the year is flying. It seems the older I get, the faster time flies!  Not that I am too worried about winter flying by...as most of you already know, I had to go and buy myself a doona with arms (commonly known as a puffer jacket) to ward off the nasty cold mornings!  Now I look like a Michelin woman, but at least I am toasty warm...

We are looking forward to the next term with some exciting changes at fit mango, including the inception of our Running Club, some new challenges to tackle and the commencement of our Balgowlah and Manly 'Ladies who Lunge' sessions.

Whats happening at Fit Mango?

Term three will see a few exciting new things happening with fit mango (as well as the weather slowly getting warmer, that is):
  1. We have introduced a new Saturday morning Weekend Blast session at Balmoral.  Those of you who have already attended the first few sesisons have loved it - we'd love to see lots more of you!
  2. During term 3 we will introduce a running club.  The idea of this is to give everyone an opportunity to gain more experience at running and help us prepare for term 3's big challenge - the bridge run!  See our note below.  Keep an eye on our website for our first session.  And its worth noting that our running club is intended as a fun social thing, we will be asking a small donation, around $5, which we will then donate to charity at the end of the term....
  3. Tuesdays at 'Ladies Who Lunge' are now a boxing zone!  Every Tuesday you get the chance to take your frustrations out on a set of boxing pads....pure unadulterated therapy!
  4. New classes will be commencing in Balgowlah Heights and Manly.  We have a super winter special on offer for these classes to help kick them off with a bang! Read on....
  5. During term 3 we will be launching a small range of training gear in association with Rockwear, a wonderful Australian activewear company. Those of you who have seen our Fit Mango trainer shirts and loved them...watch this space, they will be available soon.  Let us know if you are interested!
Michael's Kokoda adventure
michael usherDuring the past couple of months I have had the pleasure of training Michael Usher for his recent 60 Minutes story on the Kokoda Track.

Michael was handed the story with a fairly short window to get 'track fit'. He attacked the challenge with tenacity and great enthusiasm.  We trained every morning for several weeks.  His transformation was impressive!

You can read all about his experiences and watch his fantastic story here: Read Michael's Blog. Watch Michael's story

School holiday challenges

Ok, so we aren't training together over the school holidays, but that doesn't mean you can vegetate for 3 weeks!  There lots of things you can do to keep up your momentum.  I have put together a few little challenges for you to try...
  1. 'The 100 club': 100 push-ups, 100 lunges, 100 squat-jumps, and if you are outside, 10*20mtr shuttles.  Break it down, do them all in a row - its your choice!  If you need a little extra motivation, time yourself and try to beat it next time. Of course, you can add just about any exercise to this routine....100s wall brace, 100 tricep dips, 100 squats...the options are limitless!
  2. Try an early morning jog or walk.  I know its cold and dark, but getting out at first light for a brisk walk, or better still a jog for 20 minutes will improve your whole day!  I promise!!!  And because you don't have to get the kids ready for school, you might just be able to find the time.
  3. 'Its just core' - try this for a fab ab workout: - plank for 1 minute; 30 crunches with your toes to the sky, 30 rotating ab exercises in the 'boat' position (you know, 45degrees), 15 hip raises with toes to the sky...repeat 3 times...now that's what I call abs!!
And now for our next challenge...Blackmores Bridge Run
mothers day classic
I was extremely impressed and very proud to see so many of our wonderful team competing in the Mothers Day Classic in May.  Everyone performed wonderfully and I have to say, the Fit Mango t-shirts looked great!

It's always a great thing when we are training to have a goal, and this term, I would love to see a huge team enter the Blackmores Bridge Run on Sunday 19th September.  It is by far my favourite run of the season - who could miss the incredible opportunity of running across the middle of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Like last time, I would love to see a big group of Fit Mangoes out there showing the world what we've got!  We will provide a program for you to make sure you can go the distance, and as the run gets closer, our Running Club will offer a great extra training session!
Let me know if you are interested, I would love to see everyone take on the challenge.

A little bit of winter pampering.....
olgas moisturiser
As an outdoor trainer, my poor old skin has to deal with the elements all year long!  I asked one of our own wonderful "Ladies who lunge', Olga for some advice on how to help my skin cope with the winter!  I thought her advice was terrific and worth passing on.  She also has some goodies for all our Fit Mango clients....

Olga wrote: 'During winter our skin is exposed to cold windy weather and dry indoor heating - both very damaging to our skin.  This combination tends to suck the moisture from our body leaving skin that is dry, dehydrated, flaky, red, itchy and prone to cracking.  Ouch!  A few simple tips to keep skin healthy over the winter months are:
  1. Increase your water intake to keep your body hydrated ('here, here' says Jayne)
  2. Limit hot showers as this wipes out our skins natural moisture causing it to dry.
  3. Eat more natural good fats, e.g. raw nuts, avocado, salmon, etc.  All of these fats will help moisturise the skin.
  4. Maintain your regular skincare routine, or introduce one if it doesn't exist!  This should include cleansing, toning and moisturising.  In addition to this you should include a serum to hydrate your skin and a facial scrub (twice a week) that will exfoliate those dry skin cells.
Arbonne, a Swiss Skincare company, has a fabulous daily routine that will have your skin looking its best all year round.  For a free 5 day trial pack send an email to olga@myarbonne.com.au .
