Question: What is the cheapest injection molding plastic that I can use for my product?

Answer: The least expensive injection moldable plastic is typically polypropylene or polyethylene which can be used for a wide array of products. Recycled materials or fillers can be used to reduce the cost even further. The determining factor will be the physical characteristics needed in the part. Aesthetics may be a consideration as well.

Question: Can plastics used in injection molding be recycled?

Answer: Plastics or thermoplastic resins are recyclable. Many products are made with 5-10% of recycle as part of the process. Some applications are made of entirely recycled plastic. Plastic for recycle is reduced in size with granulators and then blended with virgin material to make new products.

Question: Can non-metal items be dip coated?

Answer:
Items that can withstand temperatures of 350 degrees Fahrenheit would be possible to dip coat. It's recommended that a sample lot first be dip coated to make sure the heat will not damage the part.

Question: I was looking to get parts injection molded, can I Dip Mold them instead?

Answer: Some injection molded parts can be dip molded. Dip molding offers low cost tooling and inexpensive parts if the geometry isn't complex. You will need to provide your dip molder an engineering drawing so they can determine your options.

                                   What is Plastisol ?

Plastisol is a suspension of PVC particles in a plasticizer that flows as a liquid.   Plastisol is turned into products by using heat to fuse the material into a solid end product. Plastiosl has different formulations that can produce a variety of physical properties. The hardness of Plastisol is shore A5-thru shore D 60 with tensile strength of 1700 psi.  Plastisol is available in a full color spectrum plus clear and metal flake. The surface finish is shiny smooth to dull matte and can be hot stamped  or pad printed.  It is abrasion resistant and self-extinguishing in fire. Temperature limits are less than -70°F (low temperature) or 430°F (high temperature).  Plastisol is resistant to most acids and alkaline materials and has FDA and USDA approvals. Biomedical grades are also available.

Typical applications for dip molding include gasoline nozzle covers, paint masks, plating masks, shot peen masks, socket holders, protective axe covers, valve handle covers, potting molds, protective shipping covers, conformal coating masks, trailer hitch covers, medical components, electrical connector seal, sailboat mast boots, horse earmuffs, ice scraper handles, pliers handle covers, sandblast masks, t-ball stand, medical packaging, cash register bill weights, decorative covers, pressure testing caps, vacuum sealing caps, material handling baskets and alligator clip covers.
