Tell Governor Haslam to PUT AN END TO Mountaintop Removal!

Over the past 30 years, mountaintop removal coal mining has destroyed more than 500 mountains and buried over 2,000 miles of rivers and streams across Appalachia. SOCM has been fighting mountaintop removal and other destructive strip mining practices throughout our 40 years of existence.

We need your help now. CLICK HERE to take action

The Scenic Vistas Protection Act (SB577/HB291) would ban mountaintop removal coal mining on ridgelines above 2,000 feet in Tennessee. This would be the first ban related to mountaintop removal mining practices. We are so close to a major milestone in SOCM history.

Tell Governor Haslam to support the Scenic Vistas Protection Act.

This year, SOCM joined a coalition of organizations that support the Scenic Vistas Protection Act (SVPA) to strategically approach support for the bill. SVPA coalition members sent letters to Governor Haslam last week. Now it's time for YOU to act.

The Scenic Vistas Protection Act will be coming up for a vote before we know it so ACT NOW. Tennessee could become the first state to ban mountaintop removal coal mining practices.

It is more important than ever to join the fight.

Want to tell your legislators to support the Scenic Vistas Protection Act in person? Come to SOCM's Lobby Day on Wednesday, March 7th. Please R.S.V.P. to SOCM's Organizing Director Kazi Wilkins by Monday, February 27th. Kazi can be reached at kazi@socm.org or 865-249-7488.

Tell Congress that Tennesseans Deserve Better.
