Consider Making a Gift to SOCM
It's the generous support of members that keeps us going
All throughout the year, SOCM members in over 60 counties throughout the state are working on issues important to Tennesseans - from working to end mountaintop removal coal mining to helping build a renewable energy economy in Tennessee . With SOCM, you are part of something greater than a single person can create alone. You are involved in a movement that brings rural and urban residents together to create wins that impact everyone.
We need your support to keep that good work going. If you haven't joined, visit socm.org and sign up today or consider making a tax deductible donation. Without our members, SOCM can't exist. It is your efforts in your community, and your generous donations that give breath to SOCM's dream for a healthy, equitable and just Tennessee.
Continue to be part of that dream by clicking this link and donating today. We appreciate every dollar you give to keep Tennessee's only member-run social, economic, and environmental justice organization in the state working for you.

October Events O'plenty! Come see us in your neck of the woods
October is jam-packed with events in all four-corners of the state. Check out the events calendar for details on upcoming events and come out to visit with staff and members who will be tabling in your area in the near future!
This week's featured events:
SEEED Music Harvest (Oct. 25): Our coalition partners, SEEED - Socially Equal Energy Efficient Development, will be hosting a fundraiser at the Botanical Gardens in Knoxville this Sunday, October 25th and this is an event that you do not want to miss! Guaranteed to be a good evening of festivities, the fundraiser will feature live music, local artists and some fantastic food options including homemade Jerk Chicken! The event will kick-off a youth-organized community listening project designed to get more households to adopt energy efficiency measures and raise awareness about low to no cost weatherization programs that WILL create jobs and lower utility bills for renters, businesses, and homeowners. SOCM members will join SEEED this year to expand the listening project and reach more folks in the rural as well as urban communities. We hope to see you at the event!
Jammin at Hippie Jack's (Oct. 22 - 25): Again this year SOCM members and staff will be tabling at the Jammin at Hippie Jack's Americana Music Festival. The festival will take place on Hippie Jack's farm in Overton County. Jammin at Hippie Jack's originally began as a TV series, airing in 2007 on WCTE, the local PBS affiliate in Middle Tennessee. In 2009, the series was made available to every PBS station in the country and the national audience grew to almost 40% of the country including over 112 million people in 22 states. Great Americana music. Friendly people. Family atmosphere. Beautiful countryside. Come on, be a hippie for a weekend.
The Jammin at Hippie Jack's TV series is a program of the Council of Americana Roots Music a nonprofit for the preservation and presentation of original singer songwriters of Americana roots music. The Council's goal is to educate communities with live recordings and provide free access to their music performance programs to public television stations, libraries and school systems nationwide.
SOCM is always looking for volunteers to help with public education and outreach events. Not only do you get to help out SOCM but you get free admission to some pretty cool events! If you'd like to be put on a list of volunteers willing to help out when possible, please send an email to info@socm.org or call either the Jackson or Knoxville office and we'll add your name to the list! |

"History, change, and transformation belong to those who care, who remember, who struggle to re-remember, who turn history back against itself, who expose the cracks and contradictions in history itself." -Attributed to Anna Deveare Smith in House Arrest and Piano: Two Plays (2004)
