SOCM IN THE SUMMER
A time for get-togethers, fundraisers, and goal-setting!
Dear SOCM members and supporters, The SOCM E-newsletter took a short break for the 4th of July holiday but we've returned with news of events and activities happening throughout the state. Summer is a time in SOCM when members take time to review the work of the previous year, set goals for the upcoming year, and plan fun get-togethers and fundraisers that offer a break from the heat! Check the SOCM website regularly for information on upcoming events and activities. Got plans this upcoming Friday, July 22nd? Join us at the Downtown West Cinema in Knoxville for the Knoxville premiere of "The Last Mountain," the heroic story of a community determined to save their community from mountaintop removal strip-mining. Proceeds from the event will benefit SOCM and other area non-profits. Read more below. We hope to see you there! Your SOCM Team

Film Screening in Knoxville to benefit SOCM - Friday, July 22 Premier of "The Last Mountain" at Downtown West Theater
 | Don't miss the premier showing of "The Last Mountain" in Knoxville, Tenn.

You've heard all the hype about The Last Mountain, the newest documentary highlighting the devastation that mountaintop removal coal mining brings to communities. Now, you can see the award-winning documentary in Knoxville, Tenn., benefiting SOCM and other area non-profits.
Be sure to buy your tickets early because the showing in Nashville at the Belcourt Theater, June 9, sold out and featured a packed house. Member Vickie Terry was featured during a panel discussion, discussing mountaintop removal. The Knoxville showing will take place July 22 at the Downtown West Theater and will also include a panel discussion featuring SOCM E3 Committee Chair Cathie Bird and Vickie Terry.
SOCM is thrilled to once again be partnering in support of this fantastic representation of one West Virginia community's fight to stop coal mining from destroying their community.
