dangerous process used to extract natural gas for energy use. It's just one more dirty energy process our nation is adopting more heavily to meet our growing energy needs. As time passes us by, we as an organization have to be prepared to take the actions needed to work against new threats to our Tennessee land. In the coming months, you'll have plenty of opportunities to lend a hand in our efforts to continue justice work in Tennessee. On May 17, you can join the E3 Committee conference call to support natural resources protection work. A benefit for SOCM and TN LEAF, June 9, will bring out a crowd at the Belcourt Theater in Nashville, Tenn. for a showing of the documentary "The Last Mountain."
Continue visiting socm.org for information regarding the latest Tennessee justice efforts. We have a big summer ahead of us! Sincerely, Your SOCM Team

Green-Collar Jobs Committee seeks to make energy efficiency affordable
Committee works for better pathways to renewable energy Are you someone who's been practicing energy efficiency methods for years, maybe even decades? Does your utility company communicate with you about tips, incentives, and tax credits for energy efficiency and renewable energy? Do you have a question about energy usage, but have been hesitant to ask it? The Green-Collar Jobs Committee is discussing how to make the path to energy efficiency and renewable energy easier to understand and more affordable for working and elderly Tennesseans. They are researching how to extend assistance such as the Recovery Act money that gave the Weatherization Assistance Program - a pre-existing program - such a boost, as well as how to make jobs in that sector green-collar jobs - those that can support a family and respect workers' rights such as health and safety. If you have ideas, experience, or knowledge in this area, we need you! Contact Cassie Watters today at cassie@socm.org or 865-249-7488 to get involved, and watch the website for the June face-to-face Committee meeting date, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 11 in Lebanon.
