Dear SOCM members and supporters,
Because of your calls last week, there were enough votes in the U.S. House to sustain a veto on the amendment to eliminate funding used to regulate coal ash as a hazardous waste. But our work isn't over!
As soon as today, there will be another similar amendment brought before the Senate. This is another moment when efforts to cut EPA's funding to make coal ash regulation impossible could happen. If EPA's budget it cut, the agency will be unable to enforce safety guards for hazardous coal ash, such as liners and covers.
As Tennesseans, we know that thousands of residents support coal ash as a hazardous waste. People from across the state showed up during a people's hearing and EPA-hosted Knoxville, Tenn. hearing to voice their concerns. Let's make sure their efforts for clean water and protection of land are counted!
Please, take two minutes to call your Senator today and ask them to vote NO on any amendments that would prevent a hazardous regulation for coal ash from becoming reality.
Please forward this message far and wide, to help ensure that the EPA has the opportunity to protect our health!
Sincerely,
Your SOCM Team
