Dear SOCM members and supporters,
The Tennessee Senate Transportation Committee will vote on the English-Only Driving Exam bill, SB 10, tomorrow, Feb. 23 at 1pm, bringing equality and immigration justice into question. The bill successfully distracts legislators from the priority of creating jobs in our state and threatens the prospect of new industries investing in Tennessee. If passed, this bill would serve to undermine a thriving Tennessee economy.
Please note that the Tennessee Department of Safety has testified that there are no statistics to support safety claims regarding the translation of driving exams.
Call your Tennessee Senators today to ask that they vote NO on SB 10. Find your Senator by clicking here - http://www.socm.org/index.cfm/m/50
Tell your Senators that, if passed, this bill would:
1. Prohibit all translations of the written driving exam and eliminate all current translation, including German, Spanish, Korean and Japanese.
2. Likely send jobs to other states.
3. Weaken Hispanic communities that contribute to economic stability.
4. Harm investment opportunities.
5. Prevent Hispanic residents from driving to English classes, jobs, schools, etc.
Thank you for taking the time to make sure your voice is heard for equality measures that protect all Tennessee residents!
Sincerely,
Your SOCM Team
