Implement a Policies and Procedures Program.
 
2. Depose of Junk Mail securely, all Junk Mail carries personal information. It contains more information than people think.  
 
3. Handle Credit Card receipts with care, only have the last four digits of the card print on the receipts.
 
4. Put as little information on your checks as possible including phone numbers and drivers license numbers.
 
5. Do not just throw them away. Printers and fax machines have hard drives that carry information.
 
6. All computer hard drives should be destroyed, even a wiped memory can have information retrieved on it.
 
7. Recycling is not a secure form of destruction by itself.
 
8. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Make sure partners and companies you do business with are handling your information correctly.
 
9. Understand what the laws are that affect you, and your business.
 
10. Last but not least, use a certified shredding company!
