Kansas City public radio station KCUR 89.3 FM claimed a total of eight awards for reporting and programming, and was named "Radio Station of the Year" at the 2011 Kansas City Press Club Heart of America Awards banquet. Read more

Jorge Colman, a junior at the UMKC School of Computing and Engineering, has developed a device that allows iPad and iPhone users to wirelessly watch and manipulate applications on their TV, monitor or projector. Read more

UMKC School of Medicine and Truman Medical Centers appoint Richard Evans, M.D., as chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
Dr. Evans comes to UMKC and Truman Medical Centers from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) where he currently serves as director of the Center for Hip and Knee Surgery and the chief of Adult Reconstruction. Read more 
 
ADVANCE URBAN ENGAGEMENT
Cloud L. Cray Foundation awards $410,000 to UMKC School of Education

The grant will fund the Center for Economic Education (CEE) in the School of Education over a period of two years. The CEE is one of a network of centers across the state and nation that promotes economic and financial education in schools. Read more

UMKC Medical School students and co-founders of the Kansas City Free Eye Clinic provide patients, many of them homeless, with donated medications, eyeglass prescriptions, and sometimes appointments for more extensive treatments. Read more

Branden Taylor relied for years on YouTube to get extra violin instruction that his school and family could not afford. Now Branden has free private lessons through UMKC's Musical Bridges program. To date, every student that has gone through Musical Bridges has gone on to college. Read more
 
EMBRACE DIVERSITY
UMKC and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund award 198 student scholarships
UMKC is one of 24 schools that joined the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Scholarship Fund (GKCHSF) in awarding 198 scholarships to students who are entering or continuing their college education. The $256,000 fund is the largest in GKCHSF's history. Read more
