UMKC School of Law team places third in North American round of global competition
The UMKC School of Law's Moot Court team placed third in the North American round of the global European Law Students' Association (ELSA) Moot Court Competition on World Trade Organization Law. In finishing third, the team placed ahead of teams from American University, Washington College of Law and the University of Pennsylvania. Read more
UMKC Mock Trial team places first in opening round tournament
One of UMKC's Pre-Law Program's Mock Trial teams placed first in the opening round tournament of the American Mock Trial Association's national competition. The team will compete against universities such as Harvard, the University of Chicago, Northwestern and Georgetown at the national championship April 16-18 in Memphis, Tenn. Read more
National Love of Learning Award goes to UMKC student
Oluseun Idowu is one of 50 students nationwide recognized by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi with the Love of Learning Award. Idowu, an interdisciplinary doctoral student in Geosciences and Mathematics, is working on international climate issues and plans to work with an international agency after he completes his doctorate. World's most efficient motor, generator and actuator technology now in Kansas City
Kansas City's Green Impact Zone is now home to ongoing research and development collaborations between QM Power, Inc. and the UMKC School of Computing and Engineering. Proposed by U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II, the Green Impact Zone is a cooperative effort to strengthen neighborhoods, create jobs and improve energy efficiency in a 150-block area of Kansas City. Read more

KCUR receives grant to launch new journalism initiative
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is funding a major journalism initiative that will increase local reporting capacity in seven regions around the country. In The Plains region, KCUR and five partner organizations will focus on agribusiness, including food and fuel production and farming practices, looking both at local and national issues. Read more

Dr. Glenn Talboy appointed to Missouri's Drug Utilization Review Board
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed Dr. Glenn Talboy to the state's Drug Utilization Review Board. Dr. Talboy has been with the UMKC Department of Surgery since 2001, serving as attending surgeon, assistant professor of surgery, surgery director of the multi-specialty breast clinic, and program director of surgical residency. Dean Ellen Suni receives 2010 Mother Evelyn O'Neill award
St. Teresa's Academy presented the 2010 Mother Evelyn O'Neill award to UMKC School of Law Dean Suni and Carol Grimaldi, Executive Director of Brush Creek Community Partners and UMKC Women's Center advisory board member. The award recognizes women from the Kansas City area who exemplify one of four core values of the academy: excellence in education, assisting the poor, social justice and community stewardship.
