UMKC receives grants to evaluate elderly citizens' transportation needs
UMKC receives $65,000 in grants to identify transportation needs of elderly citizens in the Greater Kansas City area. The Jewish Heritage Foundation of Greater Kansas City contributed $40,000 and the Mr. Goodcents Foundation contributed $25,000. The project - Framework for Senior Mobility - is led by the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership at the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration at UMKC. Read more
 
Healthcare Foundation of Greater Kansas City awards $100,000 grant to UMKC School of Medicine
The School of Medicine's Summer Scholars/Saturday Academy encourages youth from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the medicine and scientific fields to hone their math and science skills. Read more (includes video)

UMKC composer Zhou Long's opera, "Madame White Snake," premieres in Boston
The legend of Madame White Snake gets a musical treatment from Dr. Zhou Long, UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance faculty member. The opera, for which he composed the music, opens in Boston on Feb. 26. Read more

UM System President Gary Forsee announces the creation of the Enterprise Investment Program to create more jobs across Missouri, underscoring the university's continued commitment to being "part of the solution" to the state's economic challenges. Read more

St. Luke's names Debbie White as chief nursing officer  
Debbie White, UMKC nursing alumna, is the new chief nursing officer at St. Luke's. White will oversee more than 2,100 registered nurses at the system's 11 hospitals. Read more

As fellow at UMKC, Mayor Peggy Dunn will become teacher
UMKC alumna and Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn becomes a senior fellow at the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration, teaching a course on high-performing community volunteer boards. Read more

Black & Veatch CFO Karen Daniel honored for outstanding leadership by engineering profession
UMKC alumna Karen Daniel is recognized for her personal and professional achievements in receiving the prestigious 2010 Black Engineer of the Year Awards' Chairman's Award. Read more
