The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at the two-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway this weekend in the first of two events at the track this season.  The weekend kicked off with two practice sessions on Friday.

Travis Kvapil hit the track in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Ford, which pays tribute to Wes Leonard -- the Fennville, Mich., high-school basketball player who died after making a game-winning basket in March.  Crew chief Jay Guy and his team had the car pretty sporty, with Kvapil finishing the second practice as the third fastest car. David Gilliland and the Taco Bell team spent most of the practice sessions working on their race set-up to get the most out of the No. 34 Ford on race day.

Saturday afternoon brought hot and clear conditions for the qualifying session, with both Front Row cars going out early in the field.  Gilliland qualified his Taco Bell Ford 40th, and Kvapil ran the fastest lap of the "go-or-go-home" group to qualify the FCA Ford in the 28th position.

Kurt Busch and David Reutimann will lead the field to the green on Sunday, starting in the front row.  Busch earned his third consecutive pole after clocking a lap time of 38.16 seconds at 188.699 miles per hour.

The Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 airs on TNT Sunday, with coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET.

Comments from Taco Bell Ford team driver David Gilliland after qualifying at Michigan:

"I'm a little bit disappointed in qualifying, of course. I thought we'd be better. We hit the splitter pretty hard.  We've just got to go through and figure out what we missed and get it right for Sunday."

Comments from Fellowship of Christian Athletes Ford team driver Travis Kvapil after qualifying at Michigan:

"It felt really good. I was pretty happy with my car yesterday and the guys did a great job getting it driving good. It is always stressful when you have to get the car in on speed and everything was executed perfectly this weekend. I don't feel like we gave up too much in our race trim. We didn't do much in race trim in practice because we had to worry about qualifying, but I think we will be good for Sunday, too."
