This Sunday, October, 2010
Worship this Sunday
This Sunday's music will have an international flavor to help us celebrate World Communion Sunday. The Chancel Choir will feature a Zimbabwean Introit and a Spanish Anthem by Jay Althouse. Our Offertory music is a Mexican piece by Carlos Rosas.
Pastor Tony will reflect on I Timothy 6:6-12, 17-19 and Luke 16:19-31 in his sermon "A Great Chasm?".
We will have our annual Neighbors In Need collection.
Following worship, join us for our First Sunday Spirituality Series. This month Susan Nason will tell us of her spiritual journey.
In the afternoon, Eliot Youth will be having a volleyball party at the home of Caileigh and Ryan Byrne at 4:00 p.m. Depending on the weather and what we feel like, we will cook out or order pizza. Please bring snacks and side dishes! For more information contact Amy McMahon at amymc@rcn.com

Sr.YOUTH retreat, Oct. 16-17
So, in Sunday School, we were sharing sacred places where we find God, and Amy M. and Margaret talked about Monhegan Island in Maine. The youth were so curious, that Amy and Margaret have arranged an overnight to that area of Maine. While details are still being worked out, the cost will be roughly $100 for all expenses. Look in your email for a note from Amy and Margaret very soon. For more information and questions, contact Amy at amymcm@rcn.com or Margaret at margaretjshue@yahoo.com. |
Forum on State Ballot Initiatives 2 & 3
Sunday, October 17 There will be two very important proposals on the November 2 state election ballot. A "No" vote Question 2 would keep in place the existing state law ("Chapter 40B") that allows developers to obtain a comprehensive permit to build housing in local communities provided the development includes sufficient low- or moderate- income housing. A "No" vote on Question 3 would maintain the the state sales and use tax at the current 6.25%, rather than reducing it to to 3%. Both of these ballot initiatives could have serious repercussions for our state and local services. We invite everyone to come to an educational forum discuss these ballot initiatives and their possible implications. No matter where you stand on these issues, let's explore them together. Sunday, October 17, at 11:30 in the Eliot Church parlor.

Eliot Fall Fair - October 23
9:30 am - 3:00 pm
We need you to help make this annual event both fun and profitable! Items for the Flea Market may be brought to Fellowship Hall backstage beginning Friday, October 1. No clothes, computers or large pieces of furniture, please. Books and Media may be brought to Sanctuary Narthex (the space inside the front entrance from Centre Street). Pie Baking will be taking place in the Eliot kitchen on Saturday morning, September 25, at 8:30 under the able direction of Josephine McNeil. This year we'll be making both plum and apple pies. So, get out your rolling pin and join the fun! Homemade goodies are always good sellers and the more we have the better. This includes not only baked goods, but anything homemade such as jams, beans, pickles, etc. Cafe Thanks very much to all those who signed up to donate items for the cafe. The only item still needed is hot dog rolls, so if you can provide those please sign up at Fair table during coffee hour. Also, we really need folks to work in the cafe on Fair Day. Please sign up during coffee hour or contact Susan Nason or 617-965-1811. HELP is needed especially with sorting and pricing Flea Market items during the week before the Fair, set up on Friday, October 23, staffing all activities on the day of the fair, and clean-up at the end of the day. Even if you're going to be out of town on Fair Day, there are many ways that you can help ahead of time!! Questions or suggestions? Contact Liz Thurston or
