This Sunday, May 16
Music Appreciation Sunday
On Sunday May 16, during our worship service, The Eliot Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra will present the Mozart Mass in C Major, K. 317, "Coronation Mass". David Castillo Gocher, Conductor; Amanda Kaipio, Soprano; Olivia Hauck, Alto; Matthew Wright, Tenor; Jim Jordan, Bass. The "Coronation" mass was completed on March 23, 1779. It was composed for the crowning of an image of the Virgin in the Cathedral of Salzburg. It was premiered on Easter Sunday April 4, 1779. It is scored for SATB soloists and chorus, 2 violins, 2 oboes, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani, and organ. The Coronation Mass is one of the most popular of Mozart's 17 mass settings. Rejoice in the pageantry of this masterful work with the Eliot Church music ministry!
Be sure to pick up a copy of this year's Annual Report off the Welcomers' Table so you may have the opportunity to read it before next week's Annual Meeting.

Two Eliot members are scheduled for surgery soon and we would like to provide some meals to them during their recuperation. The meals, and the good wishes from those who deliver them, are a wonderful tonic for folks recovering from illness or surgery. Martha Totten will be having a hip replacement operation on May 19 along with some arthroscopic work on her knee. She expects to come home the following weekend (May 22 or 23). Connie Stubbs had so much fun during her first knee replacement operation that she is having the other knee done on June 2. Although meal schedules aren't set yet, please contact Susan Nason at nasonse@aol.com if you could help out with either or both.

Worship and the Art Sunday
June 6 Worship and June 13 Arts display
This year Eliot church will continue the tradition of bringing music and other art forms together, during worship on June 6 and for display after the service on June 13. The theme of for this year is "The Lord's Prayer." In upcoming bulletins and weekly announcements, we will publish various translations and interpretations of the Lord's Prayer. We invite everyone in the congregation (and beyond!) to submit artwork of every kind (drawing, painting, poetry, music, sculpture, etc.) inspired by the Lord's Prayer, or by any single phrase or petition in it. This event is designed for children, teens, and adults. Contact the pastors or Minister of Music for questions.
A paraphrase of the Lord's Prayer:
Loving Presence, luminous in all creation,
hallowed be your name.
Thy kin-domcome.
May we reflect on earth
the yielding perfection of the heavens.
Help us to receive an illumed measure from the earth this day.
Forgive us when we trespass against others,
human and other than human,
as we forgive others who trespass against us.
Keep us on the path of wisdom
when we are tempted to take the selfish path.
May it be your rule we follow,
your power we exercise,
and your radiance that allures.
May this be the truth that guides our lives,
the ground from which our future will grow,
until we meet again.
