Hi  !

There's a lot going on at Eliot this week!

Come join us!
This Sunday, May 9

This Sunday is Festival of the Christian Home, Celebration of Long Time Members and Presentation of Story Bibles to our Kindergarten Children.

Pastor Karla will reflect on Revelation 22:1-5  and Acts 16:9-15 in her sermon Open Heart.  The Children's Choir will offer an Anthem titled Everything Good by D. Schlosser.

Eliot Church Will be "Blooming" on Mother's Day

The Spiritual Life Commission will add to the celebration of Mother's Day at Eliot with baskets and vases of beautiful spring flowers adorning the sanctuary.  Do you have flowers or blossoming shrubs in your yard that you would like to contribute?  Simply bring them to church on Sunday by 9:30 and we will add them to the colorful array.  Questions?  Call Carol Brown at 617-965-2646.

Next Sunday, May 16
Music Appreciation Sunday

On Sunday May 16, during our worship service, The Eliot Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra  will present the Mozart: Mass in C Major, K. 317, "Coronation Mass".  David Castillo Gocher, Conductor; Amanda Kaipio, Soprano; Olivia Hauck, Alto; Matthew Wright, Tenor; Jim Jordan, Bass.  The "Coronation" mass was completed on March 23, 1779. It was composed for the crowning of an image of the Virgin in the Cathedral of Salzburg. It was premiered on Easter Sunday April 4, 1779. It is scored for SATB soloists and chorus, 2 violins, 2 oboes, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani, and organ. The Coronation Mass is one of the most popular of Mozart's 17 mass settings. Rejoice in the pageantry of this masterful work with the Eliot Church music ministry!

Worship and the Art Sunday
June 6 worship and June 13 arts display
This year Eliot church will continue the tradition of bringing music and other art forms together, during worship on June 6 and for display after the service on June 13. The theme of for this year is "The Lord's Prayer."  In upcoming bulletins and weekly announcements, we will publish various translations and interpretations of the Lord's Prayer.  We invite everyone in the congregation (and beyond!) to submit artwork of every kind (drawing, painting, poetry, music, sculpture, etc.)  that that is inspired by the Lord's Prayer, or by any single phrase or petition in it.  This event is designed for children, teens, and adults. Contact the pastors or Minister of Music for questions.

Here's another interpretation:

Our mother,

which art the earth,

Nurturing are thy ways.

Thy web of life be woven

Thy way be found within,

As it is all around.

Thank you this day for our daily bread and sweat

and forgive us our misuse of you,

as we forgive others their misuse of us.

And lead us not into exploitation,

But deliver us

From lording it over you,

And over each other,

And over all our other fellow creatures.

For thine are the waters of life,

The hills, valleys and plains of home,

The breeding, seeding, feeding ground,

For now, and for as close to forever

As we will ever come.

Ah, woman!
