This Sunday, May 2
This Sunday is Pledge Sunday
Please remember to bring your blue pledge card to worship. It is only because of your generosity, and commitment to the mission and ministry of the church that we are able to carry on Christ's work in the world.
We will celebrate Communion this Sunday. The Chancel Choir will offer the Kyrie from Schubert's Mass In G as this week's Anthem. Pastor Tony will reflect on Acts 11:1-18 and John 13:31-35 in his sermon Who Was I That I Could Hinder God?
Walk for Hunger
On Sunday, a tiny but titanic team from Eliot will be participating in Project Bread's 2010 Walk for Hunger to represent the mission and social justice passion and tradition of the Eliot Church.
Visit the Team Eliot page to make a donation online: http://www.projectbread.org/goto/eliotchurchnewton. From there, you can join Team Eliot, make a contribution to the team or to an individual. Thank you for considering sponsoring Team Eliot, and for your support of hungry people.
David Castillo Mini Organ Recital
If you would like to hear Eliot's organ in full sound, our Minister of Music, David Castillo will "pull out the stops" during a Mini Concert right after worship on Sunday. The program will feature the Prelude and Fugue in C Minor by Bach, choral preludes and his Prelude and Fugue in A Minor. All Eliot members and friends are invited to attend.

Worship and the Art Sunday
June 6 worship and June 13 arts display
This year Eliot church will continue the tradition of bringing music and other art forms together, during worship on June 6 and for display after the service on June 13. The theme of for this year is "The Lord's Prayer." In upcoming bulletins and weekly announcements, we will publish various translations and interpretations of the Lord's Prayer. We invite everyone in the congregation (and beyond!) to submit artwork of every kind (drawing, painting, poetry, music, sculpture, etc.) that that is inspired by the Lord's Prayer, or by any single phrase or petition in it. This event is designed for children, teens, and adults. Contact the pastors or Minister of Music for questions.
Here's another version/interpretation of the Lord's Prayer:
Good caring presence within us, around us, and above us; Hold us in a sense of mystery and wonder. Let the fullness of your goodness be within us and around us. Let all the world know your ways of caring and generosity.
May we find we have all we need to meet each day without undue anxiety. Overlook our many stupidities, and help us to release everyone from their stupidities.
May we know we are accepted. Strengthen us that we will reach out to the best, always with the faith to rise above the ugly realities of our existence.
And we celebrate the gifts you have given us: the rich kingdom of life's possibilities, the power to do good and the triumphs of good, and the moments when we have seen the glory and wonder of everything.
You are life's richness. You are life's power. You are life's ultimate meaning. Always. And for everyone.
And for evermore.
