Hi  !

We've got lots of exciting things happening this week!

Come join us!
This Sunday, April 11, 2010
This Sunday is Confirmation Sunday!  Join us as we affirm and welcome seven of our youth into the adult membership of our church.  These young people have been on an 18 month journey of classes, retreats, mentoring, and mission projects.  We also will commission students and adults going on the mission trip to Appalachia next week.  Join us, for worship, and a special coffee hour afterwards.

Adult Forum Following Worship

Various rituals and traditions regarding Holy Communion. There are various ways that Christians celebrate the Lord's Supper and receive the bread and cup: grape juice or wine? passing plates of bread and small cups of juice? coming forward to receive the bread and juice from a worship leader? gathering around the table and serving each other? drinking from the cup, or dipping the bread? We come from many different traditions, and each of these practices has a history with special significance for some of us. During the 11:30 am Adult Education Forum after worship next Sunday, we will learn more about these practices, and discuss how we here at Eliot might be enriched by them.

Sacred Conversations

Would you be interested in joining Pastors Tony and Karla for a few weekly gatherings for prayer and conversation about what matters most in our lives?  We would like to invite a group to meet weekly for 4 to 6 weeks later in the spring at a time that is mutually convenient.  If you would like to join us, please let either of us know.  - Tony and Karla

Pledge Season

During the month of April, we will launch our annual pledge campaign to fund the ministries and programs of our congregation for the coming year.  Pledge Sunday will be May 2.  Watch for further mailings and emails.  Thank you from the Finance Commission.

Mission Trip Thank-You!!!
The youth and chaperones would like to thank everyone who has helped raise funding for their trip next week.  For all of you who purchased stock shares, bean soup mix, and Valentine Love Mugs, we are grateful.  For all of you who sang and danced at Karaoke night, bought raffle tickets, and flipped pancakes, and ATE pancakes,  we thank you!  For all the time our parents put in helping us with all of these projects, oh, yes, thank you!  Thank you too, to Norma Escamilla and all of the tailoring projects she took on; and thank you to the Deacon's Fund, Mission and Social Justice, Membership and CE Commission for your financial help as well.
We can't wait for our trip, and for the experience ahead of us...we are proud to be missionaries of Eliot Church to Appalachia.

Be Sure to Return Your Census Form!

This is a reminder of the importance of completing and mailing in the 2010 U.S. Census form that you received in the mail in March. The 2010 Census provides information that each community relies on to obtain their share of more than $400 billion in federal and state funding distributed each year for health assistance, services for older adults, employment services, schools and more. A low return rate in Massachusetts could also result in the loss of Congressional seats. Starting May 1, Census workers will be going door to door to households from which a return has not been received - each contact required adds to the cost of conducting the Census. So please send in your census form and encourage others to do so as well.

If you can't find the form that was mailed to you and you live in Newton, you may call the Local Census Office at 781-577-2930 or pick one up on the Greeters' Table in the hallway.

If you need help filling out your Census or have any questions, a Census representative will be in the Chapel from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, April 13, 14 and 15.
