The Resurrection: Ask Not "(How) did it happen?" but, "What does it mean?"
"Without Easter, we wouldn't know about Jesus. If his story had ended with his crucifixion, he most likely would have been forgotten. ... So Easter is utterly central. But what was it? What are the Easter stories about?" (from Borg/Crossen, The Last Week)Join us for a pre-Easter discussion on this topic so central to our Christian heritage and our Christian faith.
Sunday is the Deadline to Order Your Easter Flowers!

Lilies will be available in white; Tulips available in red, pink, purple or yellow; Hyacinths available in blue or white. The cost is $10 per plant. See the sign up sheet in the hallway to place your order.
We would appreciate your payment when you order.
Please do not hand your check/cash to anyone in person!
Please:
You may take your plants after the Easter service, or you may donate them to one of our not-so-out-and-about folks (we hope to have some left to deliver to them). Next Sunday, March 28
Next Sunday is Palm Sunday!
We once again will be we will be using Eco-Palms, which are harvested in a sustainable manner. The harvesters are trained to gather only quality palm fronds in a way that allows the plant to keep growing. The palms are then brought to a community processing building, where they're processed and packaged for export. Look for the special insert in the bulletin.
There Will Not Be an "Open Microphone" Next Sunday or April 4 (Easter Sunday)
If you have information that needs to be shared with the congregation, please let the pastor know in advance so he can include it in the announcements.
Pancake Breakfast, Next Sunday, Following Worship
On Palm Sunday, our Youth along with their parents, and the Parish Life Commission will be serving a DELICIOUS pancake breakfast after worship.
This will be our last fundraiser, so bring your checkbook!
Bring friends and family, especially those who remember church pancake breakfasts, back in the day. The cost will be $10/person and children under 5 are FREE!!!
Won't be here on Palm Sunday? We would love to freeze a breakfast for you, but it probably wouldn't taste very good. We would still covet your support!

Maundy Thursday Worship Service
Thursday, April 1 at 7:30 pm
Celebration of the Last Supper, the Washing of Feet and Tenebrae
Maundy Thursday, which is the occasion for one of the most dramatic and moving worship services of the church year. The Maundy Thursday service combines the institution of the Last Supper, the Washing of Feet as a sign of the servanthood of Christ and of his disciples, and the recounting of the passion and death of Jesus in the growing darkness of the Tenebrae service.
As usual, we ask for volunteers to participate in the footwashing by coming forward to the front pew to have their feet washed by the pastors. This is a symbol of the humility and servanthood of Christ, as an example to his disciples. Here in staid New England, however, it is almost as much of a discipline of humility and humiliation to let your feet be washed as it is to wash feet. That is one of the elements that makes this ritual so powerful. So - will you let us wash your feet this year on Maundy Thursday? Simply wear shoes and socks that can be easily removed (no pantyhose) and come forward to the front pew at the appropriate time in the service.
Good Friday Worship Service
Friday, April 2 at 7:30 pm
A short service of scripture, music, and meditation on the Passion of Christ led by seminarian Emilia Halstead. This service will be held in the Chapel. Come and honor the sacred remembrance of this solemn day.

If you are planning to come to one or more of the potlucks and could provide a ride to someone, please also let Carol or Susan know that. The SLC wants to ensure that everyone who wants to be a part of this Lenten sharing and learning time has the opportunity to do so.

Snow & Event Cancellation Policy
Since pastor Tony can walk to church, we have never cancelled a Sunday worship service, and probably won't. However, there are times when we may wish to cancel Sunday School, Chancel Choir, Children's Choir, and other planned programs.
Since most of the congregation is connected by email, we will use the Eliot Email list to "get the word out" about cancellations. For major events, an all-church email will be sent by 8:00am, as well as separate emails for special groups - e.g. the choir, church school families, etc. We will have a special message on the church telephone answering machine announcing the cancellations (also by 8:00am).
If you don't have email at home, or would prefer to get a telephone call (rather than email message) if a cancellation might affect you, please call Terri Whitney Jackson in the church office at 617-244-3639 ext. 201 or send her an email at office@eliotchurch.org and asked to be put on the phone contact list.
