Congregational Forum to discuss the Fiscal Options for Eliot's Vibrant Future - 11:30 am in the Chapel
There will be an opportunity at this forum to explore and develop an additional option for addressing Eliot's fiscal situation and strengthening the church community based on the common themes identified through the dialogues. This forum will be facilitated by the Task Force and will be held in the chapel at 11:30-1:00 pm (coffee hour will be held in the parlor). Even if you did not attend one of the dialogues, come, participate, and hear what Eliot members have been deliberatively, lovingly and thoughtfully discussing about Eliot's future.
On Tuesday, March 9, 2010, based on the dialogue input and the March 7th forum, the Coordinating Council will meet to discuss an alternative option to be presented for discussion and a vote at next Sunday's Congregational Meeting.

Lenten Potluck Supper and Study Series
Lenten Potluck Study Series:
Spiritual Practices in Everyday life.
Have you ever thought of walking on the earth as a spiritual practice? Or how you live in your own body? Or saying "No!" Or hospitality? Or resting? Or recycling?
Some thoughtful and articulate Christian teachers have described how each of these "disciplines" can be profound spiritual practices for everyday Christians. Join Tony, Karla and Emilia every Wednesday evening during Lent, through March 24, to reflect more about, and perhaps learn to enter more deeply into, these spiritual practices of our everyday lives.
The potluck suppers will begin at 6:30 and the programs at 7:30. If you would like to come to the potluck, but need a ride, please contact Carol Brown or Susan Nason of the Spiritual Life Commission (SLC). If you are planning to come to one or more of the potlucks and could provide a ride to someone, please also let Carol or Susan know that. The SLC wants to ensure that everyone who wants to be a part of this Lenten sharing and learning time has the opportunity to do so.

Welcomers Needed!
Being a Welcomer is an important ministry that takes little time, but has a big impact. What do Welcomers do? Come to church by 9:45, greet folks as they come to the service and hand out bulletins, take up the collection, and help to ensure that newcomers in particular are made to feel welcome and comfortable. We all have been newcomers at one time or another and how we are greeted can have a big impact on how we feel about our experience. This is one of the ways that each of us at Eliot can strengthen the growth and outreach of Eliot. We try to have four Welcomers every Sunday. You can sign up on the bulletin board in the hallway.
Thank you from the Spiritual Life and Membership Commissions.

Flowers Needed!
Would you give them to honor a special person or occasion? You can give flowers of your own choosing or the committee can get flowers for you. On Communion Sundays, if you would like to honor a loved one or special occasion, we place them on a pedestal under the bible lectern. The committee needs your help! See the sign up sheet in the hallway or call Elizabeth Woodbridge or call her at 617-924-2048 with your questions.

We raised the money to help rebuild the feeding station in Zambia!
Members of Eliot responded enthusiastically to the Alternative Giving opportunity this Christmas and donated $1,740 to help rebuild the meal shelter in Zambia where our partners, the Chipego Women of Hope, feed and care for 70 AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children. Through Mission & Social Justice, Eliot covers school fees and uniforms for just under half that group. We asked what else they needed, and the women replied with a detailed budget to add walls and a cement floor to the structure where they provide meals before and after school. Board members from our local contact, Communities without Borders (CWB), delivered the check when they visited in February. Thank you to all who participated. Hooray!
Trip to Zambia Summer 2010?
Patrick O'Reilly is looking to see if anyone would like to join him on a trip with CWB to Zambia this summer. These visits have been described as life changing events. He would welcome the company. You can reach him at patevan@aol.com.

The New Sunday School Term Begins March 21
Our Spring Sunday School term begins on March 21st, and continues to June 14. We are grateful to all volunteers and teachers that have taken time out to fulfill their baptismal vows to pass on the tradition of our faith, and to be able to follow safe church practises as best we can.
Currently we really need a co-teacher for the 2-3 grade class to join Laura Seoane in the spring.
We also need nursery volunteers to assist our professional child care staff. The Sundays we need nursery staff are the second and fourth Sundays .
Could you give up a Sunday to cuddle babies? Or be surprised by the spiritual depth and wisdom of our 2-3 graders?
It's a wonderful way to give, and what you receive is one hundred fold. Please, our children need you! Contact Pastor Karla, Sue Maraventano, or Laura Seoane to find out more! Thanks!

For your donations for the City of Boston Animal Shelter.
The pet supplies were delivered this past Saturday. The staff of the shelter were amazed by your generosity. We could not have been successful without you.

All concerned individuals from Newton, Wellesley, Weston, Wayland, Watertown, Needham, Waltham and the Greater Boston area are encouraged to come together for education and motivation to work to end the homelessness in our communities. Snow & Event Cancellation Policy
Since pastor Tony can walk to church, we have never cancelled a Sunday worship service, and probably won't. However, there are times when we may wish to cancel Sunday School, Chancel Choir, Children's Choir, and other planned programs.
Since most of the congregation is connected by email, we will use the Eliot Email list to "get the word out" about cancellations. For major events, an all-church email will be sent by 8:00am, as well as separate emails for special groups - e.g. the choir, church school families, etc. We will have a special message on the church telephone answering machine announcing the cancellations (also by 8:00am).
If you don't have email at home, or would prefer to get a telephone call (rather than email message) if a cancellation might affect you, please call Terri Whitney Jackson in the church office at 617-244-3639 ext. 201 or send her an email at office@eliotchurch.org and asked to be put on the phone contact list.
