Dear Friend,
(OK, this month is a long one, but please read all the way through - it can save you lots of $$)
What a year! 2009 was personally and professionally a dynamic, wonderful, awful, hopeful, and scary year! I mean, wow, the ups and downs - I won't be craving a roller coaster ride anytime soon!
It started when we had our third son Lifton in January - healthy and right on time to share my 40th birthday - up, up, up, up, up! Spring time hits - time for a tax audit! down, down, down, down, down! Summer time - we're booming - business has never been better - up, up, up, up, up! Fall - I end up in the hospital, not once but twice - and may have a very serious condition - down, down, down, down, down! Winter - I have the "eureka moment" and decide to change the way we do business (see the last newsletter), AND find out I don't have that serious condition after all - up, up, up, up, UP!
Last newsletter, we announced our new organization, introduced the team, and spoke about the new Customer Center at www.wanderlogic.com. This newsletter, I want to share some insight that came to me while sitting at a holiday dinner. We've all been there, sitting at the table with your family and loved ones, feasting, laughing, catching up, bragging about the little ones if you're lucky. It's a joyous occasion based on faith and tradition - one that we all seemed to enjoy greatly. I thought about how long it has been since I had seen everyone, it seemed crazy to me that these people I love I only see once a year or so - I'd love to see them every weekend - "Why doesn't that happen?" I thought. OK, admittedly every weekend is pushing it, but more - anything more is surely doable. After some careful thought and a few glasses of wine (sue me), it came to me - its just not in everyone's best interest to be together.
I know what I wrote, its sounds harsh. OK, maybe best interest should be demoted to primary interest. In other words, its not everyone's primary interest to find ways to get together - work, family, friends, whatever - they all get in the way. Now, imagine if your whole family worked together, lived together, and everything they did benefited one another equally. There'd be no barriers - everything would be in sync - if Saturday AM is good for one its good for all as "good" means the same for everyone. Everyone has the same primary interest.
What's this got to do with Wanderlogic? EVERYTHING! My mind went to times I've sat at your table, describing what's wrong with the server, or why the backups didn't run, or why the receptionist's computer has a virus - and how much it will cost to fix.
