Step 1. Keep your tires inflated to the correct pressure.  Proper tire inflation reduces drag, helps prevent uneven tire wear and even improves the ride.

Step 2. Make sure your vehicle's maintenance services are up to date because dirty air and fuel filters and worn spark plugs rob your engine of horsepower.

Step 3. Change your oil regularly.  Dirty oil doesn't lubricate well and this increases friction.  More engine friction results in more fuel consumption.

Step 4. Avoid carrying excessive weight in your vehicle's trunk.  All the extra weight requires more power to transport it resulting in more fuel consumption.
