2012 Portfolio Review Night - A Great Opportunity for Students and Reviewers On Thursday evening, April 26, 2012, both second-year and third-year students - as well as 29 professional reviewers - converged on the Creative Center campus to complete an annual tradition that benefits both sides. Students who are preparing to enter the design and advertising industry must perfect the "art" of displaying and discussing their portfolio; this event gives them the opportunity to practice these skills, receive valuable input from professionals in the field, and build confidence for upcoming interviews. For the professionals, Portfolio Review Night provides the opportunity to see what budding talent is emerging from our doors in the next month; if companies are hiring (or even considering hiring) this event provides a chance to snatch up top-notch graduates before they have been spotted by others.
The following individuals were gracious enough to share their time, talent and effort by reviewing portfolios. We thank each and every one of them!

Featured Projects: TV Promos
Sometimes graphic design pops up in unexpected places. Television networks use designers to create T.V. promo cut-aways that persuade viewers from changing the channel. In the second year, our students must create their own T.V. promo to either exit to a commercial break or to return back to programming. Students can also create a "mini-commercial" which advertises an upcoming program. While the computer application used to create the T.V. promo may vary, students must always remember that the key is to catch and keep the attention of the viewer so that the information displayed is retained and acted upon. Graduate of the Month
Nate Perry, 1998 graduate and valedictorian
Senior Art Director at Webster Design Associates in Omaha, NE
www.websterdesign.com
High School: Carroll High School in Carroll, IA
What does the company do? Webster in an interdisciplinary design firm founded in 1982. Our services include branding, visual identity system, print communications, exhibit design, event marketing and interactive design and development.
What does the graduate do? I design! :) I work with a handful of small clients one-on-one to large clients where I am part of a larger team. So, I design anything from a logo for a small start-up one day to a whole print collateral campaign for a Fortune 500 company the next day to a website the day after that. Very diverse, which is what I love and keeps me challenged.
Clients: ConAgra Foods, Hallmark, Valley Lime, Level 3 Communications, Green Plains Renewable Energy, Boston Properties, The Durham Museum, Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, Quality Living Inc., Maytag, Gilden Tree, Barnhart Press, Jetlinx, Big&J Industries, Jones Bros. Cupcakes, First National Bank, Leo A Daly, Fraser Stryker, TD Ameritrade, Strategic Air & Space Museum & more.
Additional Comments: Never stop learning and being taught. I've been designing for 12 years and there is always a new way to look at a problem and solve it in a different way.
