Mr. Straatmann shaving
Not Your
Typical Motivator

Adjunct Instructor Paul Straatmann wanted to motivate the second-year students to do well on their midterm exams. Students the previous year had received a high average grade on the midterm, which gave Mr. Straatmann his big idea. He made this proposal to the students, "Get a higher average grade on your midterm grades than last year's class, and I'll shave my beard." Apparently, the students liked that challenge. On Friday, October 21, Mr. Straatmann had to keep his word, so he shaved his beard - right there in class.

Thanksgiving Break

Happy Thanksgiving!

We LOVE Halloween!

Happy Halloween 2011

Every year, Creative Center students, faculty and staff celebrate Halloween with costumes and candy. Class isn't cancelled for the day, exactly - the students still have work to complete - but the costume contest and lots of showing off take up much of the day. It's a nice way to recharge and mentally prepare for the last half of the semester.

Featured Project: Charcoal Drawing

Greek Charcoal Drawings

At the Creative Center, we go a step beyond the average college Art History course. Students are required to complete creative projects based on the art eras covered in class. Above, students used charcoal to draw Greek sculpture, focusing on dramatic lighting.
