Educators Seminar a Colossal Success! On June 24, High School Art Teachers from four states gathered at the Creative Center to gain further insight into the graphic design and advertising field. These teachers were able to pick the brains of professional designers and illustrators in the field in order to develop meaningful and relevant curriculum and assignments for their high school students. Comments from the attendees say it all:
"This seminar was so helpful in explaining what graphic design and advertising entails and how I can get these concepts across to my high school art students. It was definitely a worthwhile learning experience."
"Great work! Really enjoyed this and would highly recommend it!"
"The time seemed to fly - the presenters did an excellent job!"
"Excellent! Even being computer illiterate, this was very informative and valuable."
"All sessions were extremely useful. I learned a lot and will bring this to my students."
"I learned so much in one day. Ideas for lesson plans, new ways to present information, and ways to make what I teach useful and functional for today's students. This is an awesome seminar!"

Featured Project: Banner Ads
Second- and third-year students are charged with creating banner ads to accentuate their campaigns. Banner ads have become a staple of advertising, and are a "must know" for every design student. These ads can come in a multitude of shapes and sizes, however, the best banner ads always: 1) secure the viewer's attention, and 2) (even more importantly) initiate interest in the product or service, and 3) (best of all) instigate a click through, when the viewer clicks on the ad for more information.

Design Intern at Bailey Lauerman in Lincoln, NE www.baileylauerman.com High School: Raytown HS in Kansas City, Missouri What does the company do? Marketing and advertising solutions for a variety of clients, from Special Olympics to Union Pacific. What does the graduate do? I'm currently working with five other interns on creating and promoting a new health and wellness program for Special Olympics Nebraska. We've each been paired with mentors in our respective fields, and have limited direct guidance (what Rich Claussen - EVP / Talent Development - refers to as 'helicoptering') for our campaign. For the most part, the interns are hashing out everything on our own, with our mentors there whenever we get in a jam or need some advice. Clients: Special Olympics Nebraska Additional Comments: Bailey Lauerman has been nothing but awesome to the interns, from providing the Nest, to providing great, passionate mentors who really want to see us succeed and do well. If you want to keep up with me and the other interns, be sure to follow us on Twitter and Tumblr! |
