Computers At Last!

This much-anticipated day has arrived, and the new computers are in! Monday, January 11, was an exciting day for the first-year students, who received laptop computers, software, computer bag and USB drives to call their very own. Along with the hardware and accessories comes training in print design and photo manipulation, as well as general maintenance and troubleshooting. Next year will begin the web journey, along with multimedia, signage and animation.

Famous Faces Project

Project
of the Month

First-year student projects lean heavily on traditional art skills, as these skills are the foundation for graphic designers and illustrators. One of the favorite assignments is the "Famous Face" project, where students must pick a famous personality who is deceased and paint a portrait. Students are able to pick their own subject matter and their own media of preference, creating a variety of styles and interpretations.

Projects shown were illustrated by (clockwise from top left) Jessica McKinney from Glenwood Senior High School in Glenwood, IA (John Belushi); Heidi Etelamaki from Marysville High School in Marysville, KS (George Harrison); Joe Kroese from Western Christian School in Doon, IA (Kurt Cobain); and Sadie Schantz from Laurel-Concord School in Laurel, NE (John Wayne).
