Project
of the Month

Second-year students start learning the magic of designing for the World Wide Web. Content, navigation, site maps, HTML, interface, slices, rollovers, links and buttons are just some of the terms and tasks that students must master in order to be employed as a web designer.

Projects shown were designed and produced by (top to bottom) Brandon Spicer from Valley Center High School in Valley Center, KS; Abbie West from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in Sioux City, IA; and Ryan Murphy from Millard West High School in Omaha, NE.

High School: Bellevue East High School, Bellevue, NE

What does the company do?  SNI is a newspaper company owned by Midlands Newspapers and the Omaha World Herald. Currently, SNI and OWH are combining services becoming the World Herald Media Group. The companies are separate entities, but under one roof.

What does the graduate do? My job in Creative Services is to create advertisements for clients that have been booked in our system by sales representatives. Normally clients have only a few specifications or wants, so it's my job to come up with an ad that stands out and looks good. I also layout the Bellevue Leader, as well as group pages and special projects. Our department does a large amount of commerical jobs (outside jobs), and we come up with ads, layouts and sometimes editorial content for certain projects.

Sample Clients: We have a vast amount of clients ranging from small local businesses to larger national companies that run in our papers, special sections and commercial jobs.

I want to personally wish every one of our readers a happy holiday season, complete with lots of food and a beautiful start to the new year!

Sincerely,
