Welcome to the e-mail newsletter for our new earth science bookstore & natural history gallery in Orange, California. After 20 years in Nevada we have relocated to Orange County. We feature the largest selection of earth science publications (new, used & rare) in one location in North America; as well as minerals, fossils, meteorites, decorator items, and unique colored stone jewelry.

Our first annual event! If you have gemstones you would like to have mounted, replaced, or would like to have custom jewelry designed for you, visit us on Sunday for this special event. Our goldsmiths will have a CAD jewelry design program available to work with you on designing a ring, pendant or other piece of fine jewelry (for yourself or in time for a holiday gift).
Bring in your jewelry missing gemstones and select from our inventory of colored stones and diamonds. A bench jeweler will be on the premises to set stones while you wait.

 Book Signing with Acclaimed Gem Author Fred Ward
On Saturday, October 24 we had a Meet the Author/Book Signing event with noted gemologist and gem book author Fred Ward. Many know Fred for his wonderful articles on gemstones for National Geographic Magazine. The Fred Ward Gem Series books are beautifully written and photographed, describing the history, lore, geology, and gemology of the most popular gemstones (Emeralds, Jade, Rubies and Sapphires, Opal, Diamonds, Pearls, Phenomenal Gems and Gem Care). Approximately 40 people turned out to visit with Fred and Charlotte Ward, who were gracious enough to meet and talk to people for almost four hours.

 Book Signing With Noted Gem & Jewelry Author Renee Newman

We had our first special event at the new store on Saturday, October 10 with author Renee Newman. 30-35 people showed up to talk to Renee, purchase her books and have them autographed. All had a great time and Renee was in the store about twice as long (almost 4 hours) as we had originally planned.
Renee discussed her new projects, including a book on Exotic Gems, as well as a revision of her Pearl book, both which should go to press next year. She has agreed to return to our store when the new books are published.

For those of you who are not very familiar with us, Nevada Mineral & Book Company was founded in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1989, when we acquired the inventory of the Mineralogical Record Book Department. For many years we sold primarily by mail order and at major gem & mineral shows. In 2001 we opened our first retail location in Henderson, Nevada. In August, 2009 we relocated and opened our new store and gallery in Orange, California.
Walter Lombardo is a consulting geologist with over 30 years of experience. For 16 years, he managed the Las Vegas Office for the Nevada Division of Minerals. He has also worked for several mining and exploration companies, most recently managing the North American exploration program for a Canadian junior mining company, Walt's expertise is in mineralogy and geologic information. He now manages the retail store full-time.
Sandy Lombardo is a biologist by training, and has taught in the California public school system (grades K through community college) for more than 25 years. She is a Certified Gemologist, SCC, and also manages our on-line publication inventory.
Our goal has always been to provide the widest range of geologic information and earth science collectibles to our clients in one location, We have a very large inventory of items for the professional geologist, gemologist, prospector, teacher, rockhound and collector, as well as libraries, museums, universities and mining and engineering companies. We also have books and items for the novice collector and children. Our store is conveniently located on Tustin Street, close to the 55, 22 and 5 freeways in Eldorado Plaza, just three blocks south of Chapman Avenue in the city of Orange.
