The Name Above All Names
| |
Principal Scott Williams |
It was the first week of school, and I had just finished teaching the Bible lesson at a 1st - 3rd grade chapel. As I was walking across the parking lot toward my car, a kickball suddenly came bouncing toward me from the elementary play area. The 1st grade student pursuing the ball, dutifully stopped at the play area boundary and watched as I recovered the ball and rolled it back to him. "Thanks, Chapel Guy," he shouted. | |
As I laughed about this first grader knowing me as the "chapel guy", I think I heard the Holy Spirit say to me, "You think of Jesus the same way." I immediately knew the Holy Spirit did not mean that I think of Jesus as the "chapel guy", but rather I was guilty of thinking about Jesus in a very limited and sometimes selective way. How many times have I thought of Him only as the guy I call on when all other avenues of help are taken? Is He my Savior, but not Lord? Is He my rescuer, but not my Master? I have been well taught and have experienced Jesus as my Good Shepherd, Light of the World, Brother, King of Kings, and much more. However, it is obvious to me that if I do not keep myself close to Jesus through prayer and His word, I can begin to forget all that He is for me. And even now, the more I learn about Him and all that He is for me and this fallen world, the more I appreciate, worship, and love Him.
So, when CFS Elementary Specialist, Geannie Shay, came to me with the suggestion that we look at the names of God as a chapel theme this semester, together we concluded that adjusting the theme to the names, titles, and roles of Jesus was the leading of the Holy Spirit. So, that is what we will be doing in chapel this semester, learning about the names, titles, and roles of Jesus. Our prayer is that as our students learn more about who Jesus is, they will begin to recognize Him in places, circumstances, and situations, where He is missed by many. We hope that as they see Him for who He is, they will grow in prayer, worship, and in their love for Him.
In addition to Geannie Shay and myself, other guests will be invited to speak about Jesus at our chapels. Please join us in praying that our students are transformed, as they hear the good news about our Savior, Mighty God, Living Water, and Bread of Life. |

Meet A Special CFS Family
| Meet the Babich family! Kylie is in Kindergarten and Jordyn is in the 4th grade. Kylie and Jordyn, along with their mom, Noelle, had to say good-bye to their husband and father, Chris, this month as he was deployed to Egypt for a year. Chris is in the Army National Guard. They will be stationed on the Sinai Peninsula on the border with Israel. Their mission is to uphold the Peace Treaty that was signed between Egypt and Israel in 1979. This strip of the Sinai is called Zone C and no Egyptian or Israeli military is allowed in order to keep a neutral zone. This is a United Nations mission and is manned by contingents from 12 different countries. You can find more information at www.mfo.org.
Their unit has soldiers from all over Missouri and a few from other states that have been deployed. They are based out of Jefferson City. Their Family Readiness Group has asked for classrooms or schools to adopt the unit and do various projects throughout the year for the soldiers. Mrs. Babich, Noelle, has talked to Mrs. Hill (Jordyn's teacher) and Miss Russell (Kylie's teacher). They are both excited about participating. Mrs. Mueller stopped Noelle this past week and said one of her students asked to pray for Chris. Mrs. Mueller wants to send a box to Mr. Babich, Chris, on his birthday, which is coming up in October. They are very excited by the response of support and love from the students and the teachers. Just one of the many wonderful things about CFS!!! Please keep this special family in your thoughts and prayers throughout this coming year. We are so thankful for them and their sacrifice. We are Blessed!

An MKT Pictorial
| |
A local photographer and friend to CFS, Gary Dietrich, has made a wonderful book, Seasons of the MKT Trail, A Pictorial Journey, available to CFS families for $30.00 with $15.00 going back to the CFS Annual Fund. You may view the contents of the book and order your own copy at the school office. This book is filled with over 170 beautiful and unique photographs of the wildlife, flowers, bridges, and seasonal changes which make the MKT such an interesting and special feature of the Columbia community. This is a perfect gift for someone who loves Columbia, likes the out-of-doors, or would welcome a reminder of pleasant times on the MKT. |

Meet Our WONDERFUL New Teachers
Amanda Dart - Preschool/Enrichment
"I'm Amanda Dart and I'm thrilled to be at CFS this year as the new Preschool and Afternoon Enrichment teacher. I grew up in Springfield, MO and graduated with a degree in Special Education from the University of Missouri. I taught in my field for several years in Columbia Public Schools and for the past 5 years I have been teaching Pre-K part-time in Columbia. In between those two jobs my husband, Scott and I had 3 babies: Alex who is now 12 years old and in 7th grade, Austin who is now 9 years old and in 4th grade and Abby who is almost 6 years old and in Kindergarten. All of our kids transferred to CFS this year along with me so we're just one big, happy family heading to school together each morning. Together, we love Mizzou football, camping, traveling, movies, playing board games, and we began geocaching this summer. I also enjoy cooking, digital scrapbooking, flower gardening, volleyball and reading. We attend Alive In Christ Lutheran Church where we're involved in various areas of ministry from small group to youth group to hospitality. CFS has already become an amazingly supportive family to me and my family and I'm looking forward to our year ahead!"
Jen Pierce - IIC Teacher
"Hello. My name is Jen Pierce and I am the new teacher in the IIC. I am excited to join the staff at Christian Fellowship School where I get the privilege of teaching many students from many grades and subjects, as well as the ability to lead the academic lab time after school.
I am coming to your school with a parochial school teaching background while living in Kent, Ohio and then recently here in Columbia. Watching the students brain wheels turn, generating the current that lights the "ah-ha" bulb, give me such excitement every day. Thank you for the entrusted opportunity.
My free time is spent focusing on my family. My husband Kent and I have two daughters, Emma (11) and Norah (8), and a son, Brennen (5). Many of our activities center around our church, Campus Lutheran, where my husband serves as Assistant Pastor. The rest of the time you can find us bicycling on the Katy, planning a trip to another state (37 down, 13 more to go), or hanging out at home enjoying quieter activities. I like to indulge in reading, cooking, sewing, and crocheting when I find quiet time.
I hope that I can begin to get to know many of your families in the coming months."
