Christmas around the world...

ACM delivered Journey Packs a family in Tahlequah.Christmas is such a wonderful time of celebration for so many.  Of course it is the time Christians celebrate the birth of our Savior.  We celebrate His compassion and sacrifice in leaving paradise to become man.  We celebrate in fellowship with our family and friends.  We celebrate in giving and receiving of gifts. We celebrate life.

Pleae note though, as we celebrate this season, others will find it difficult to celebrate.  They are the hungry, the hurting and the homeless of the world.  Millions will spend Christmas without a roof over their head.  Over 800 million people will spend Christmas hungry.  At least 100 million orphaned children will spend the holidays without a family.  This Christmas holiday thousands of children will be physically, emotionally, and even sexually abused in their home.  In the U.S  at least three children will be murdered at the hands of those entrusted with their care on Christmas day.

I don't say this to ruin your holiday, but to remind you that others aren't so fortunate.  God commands us to remember the orphan and widow in their affliction (James 1:27).  In Mat 25:42 we are told that what we do for the less fortunate is equal to doing it for Christ.  How do the less fortunate fit into your holiday plans?  I hope you will celebrate the greatest gift ever given by giving.
What we do...

ACM delivered Journey Packs a family in Tahlequah.
Dear Compassionate friend

Arms of Compassion (ACM) has now been ministering to needy children at home and abroad for over five years.  We have come a long way in that time in caring for the needs of the impoverished and orphaned child as well as the hurting family.  I hope you will take note in the following paragraphs of our many compassion efforts and consider supporting us as your compassion ministry in the upcoming year.

ACM was organized in 2004 for the purpose of equipping the local church for and serving as its extension in compassion ministry.  We minister to the emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of hurting children in the US and abroad.  There are vasious compassionate aspects to ACM:

1)  Homes for Children - We recruit and support foster and adoptive families through various compassionate projects.  One aspect of this ministry is the issuing of Compassion Grants, which are $300-$500 mini-grants given to assist in adoption as well as specific needs of foster children and families.  Smaller gifts are given for specific reasons to assist children and families in poverty.  We have sponsored numerous adoptive and foster children from the US, Vietnam, Russia, and the Ukraine.

2)  Disaster Relief - ACM provides generators and other services for affected families in times of disaster.  We are currently equipping trailers with 6-10 generators in strategic locations around the state of Oklahoma.  These trailers will be ready to respond in a moments notice in times of disaster.  We have hopes of equipping trailers along the gulf coast as well.  A generator can be sponsored for $650 or an entire trailer for $5000.

3)  Global Compassion - ACM helps fund various compassionate ministries to underpriveledged children in the US, Mexico, Romania, and Brazil, as well as other compassion projects around the world.  These ministries minister to children who otherwise would remain on the street and/or without.

4)  Journey Packs - These include a blanket, "Critter" (neck) Pillar, Bible, and a Care Kit (1 gallon ziploc bag filled with personal care items).  The Journey Packs are primarily funded by our Homes for Children ministry as well as designated giving (about $25 each).  Care Kits are assembled and provided by indiviuals and organizations.  A list of items can be found on our website.

Please note, ACM does not invest large amounts of money in buildings, salaries, and/or equipment.  The director works out of his own home and stores generators, trailer, and other equipment in a small rented storage facility.  He works fulltime as a counselor so as not to be a financial burden to the ministry.

I so appreciate all you do for the needy in your community and around the world.  Thank you for making Arms of Compassion a part of you 2010 compassion plans...

Blessings...
John

Happenings and plans...

This has been a lean year for ACM, yet we have still managed to stay busy and touch lives in creative ways all around the world.

We have recently held two Disaster Relief Trainings, certifying 20 new volunteers in three areas.  We now have teams trained and equipped with generators and chainsaws in Ada, Blanchard, and Tahlequah.  We have also had a small trailer donated recently that I plan to pull with my car, carrying a couple generators, some journey packs, and etc.  We hope to possibly do a training and place a trailer (donated by the National Master's Men) with generators and a chainsaw in Moore soon after the first of the year.  Of course this depends on interest.

We have given out several Journey Packs.  I personally delivered some to a struggling family in Tahlequah as well as granted a compassion Grant to that family for Christmas.  I don't get to hand deliver packs often and greatly enjoyed the experience.  It is really awesome to see the joy on these children's faces when they get these packs.  I have included pictures with this report for your viewing.

We are planning in the coming year to give Journey Packs to the kids of Ally's House.  This is a ministry that ministers to various needs of young cancer victims in Oklahoma.  We have also helped pay for Michael Hewett to minister in Uganda for the nest 6-7 months.  One of the ministries he will be involved in there will be to terminally ill children in an orphanage.  We plan to send Journey Packs over with him especially for those children.

Of course we have continued to support various ministries in Romania, Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S.  These funds have probably suffered the most, but we are sure these numbers will increase as the economy strengthens.

The upcoming year as any other hold many surprises, detours, and blessings.  I am excited to see how gGod manuevers us through.  Join us in our Compassion Journey..
