Spring into Learning this Fall
       
WatercolourDuring the summer, NorthTec's Adult Community Education (ACE) programme took it outside, enjoying the long hot days and plenty of summer sun. With autumn in the air, ACE is offering a mix of indoor and outdoor courses ranging from arts to horticulture.

ACE's courses are designed for you - the adult learner. So check out what's on offer - you're sure to find something of interest.

 
Say cheese! Cheese making with tutor Liz Akehurst has been a great success and the upcoming classes on 15th Gardenand 28th May are filling fast. In this course, you will taste fresh cheese, learn about marinating in olive oil, herbs and garlic, match cheeses with fresh bread and make feta, houlumi and ricotta.
 

TomatoStep up and grow. Courses on offer around Whangarei include: Compost MakingDesigning Your Home Orchard, Autumn and Winter Vegetable Gardens and Growing in Containers. For those of you who would like to enjoy fresh home grown eggs and character filled hens, check out Urban Chooks.

Calling all pizza lovers. Raised Bed Gardens and Adobe Pizza Ovens is now followed up with Cooking with Your Adobe Pizza Oven. Learn how to use your pizza oven for roasts, stews and other tasty winter meals.

Get creative! A wide range of art courses tutored by renowned artists are held at NorthTec's Kerikeri campus. Try Pottery with Richard Parker, Digital Imaging using Photoshop with Kerry Boyde or Scott McPharlane's Painting.

Your 15 minutes of fame. Our popular Flax Roots Documentary (Digital Video Production) can be found in Kerikeri, Rawene and Whangarei. The course is run by local film makers keen to preserve our stories.

Fashinistas take notice. Those of you that remember the label 'Holic' will be delighted to know that Holly O'Neill brings her talents to Revamp Your Precious Clothes. Sharon Thompson is keen to show you how to Print Your Own Cloth.

Upskill over winter. Try our Introduction to Espresso and Food Safety courses. As always, the Liquor Licensing Controllers qualification is on offer.

Take control of your financial wellbeing. Try a Financial Literacy course to learn about making wise decisions, understanding financial documents and creating your family budget. This wide range of seminars available to the Northland community builds on the basics about making wise money decisions to understanding income tax and banks. Contact Jane Scripps for more information about this course.

Looking to further your study? Make the big step into tertiary study and gain the confidence to refresh or build new skills. Get Yourself Ready for Tertiary Study is available at several sites in Tai Tokerau.

Get fit! There are several fitness and well-being opportunities with Eat for Keeps, Tai Chi Chuan, Yoga, Nordic Pole Walking, Advanced Pilates and Step Aerobics. These courses are available from Kaitaia to Silverdale.

Introduce yourself to Maori Arts. Whakairo Rakau (Introduction to Maori Carving) joins Tuia Te Korari (Introduction to Maori weaving), Te Ha o Te Reo(Introduction to Maori language) and Nga Mahi a Toi (Introduction to Kapa Haka) in our group of courses on Maori arts. A valuable way of understanding our bi-cultural relationship and its history is through the Treaty of Waitangi with Moea Armstrong.

Community computing. This technology based world drives many of us to need to use Microsoft Office tools like Outlook, Word, Excel or PowerPoint. Dedicated coaches will help you through this five week course. 
 
Musicians unite. A new and interesting addition to our range is Computer Generated Music taught by Mike Mullany. Using specific software you will write you own scores and hear them played back to you.

Make ACE Work for You
Enrol at least a week before the course start date, including paying your fee. Courses may be cancelled if there are too few enrolments.
