CAMPS Members Strategic Plan for 2012"

Strategies and Tactics to take CAMPS to a new level

CAMPS was officially launched in January 2008 with a Feasibility Study, Business Plan, launch funds, and a VISION. After nearly four years CAMPS has assembled a strong group of small and medium size manufacturers, supported by supply chain companies, professional services providers, and public and non-profit partners. Although CAMPS began in the Kent Valley, we launched CAMPS North in March 2010 and CAMPS overall continued to grow in 2011.  In 2012, we plan to fine tune our focus and strengthen our initiatives.

CAMPS staff and members are gearing up for 2012 and beyond, the CAMPS Board of Directors has developed five strategies to ensure focus and value to the CAMPS membership.

1. CAMPS first focus is on membership value in 2012. CAMPS primary focus is to engage the membership and set priorities on membership value, we want our membership to drive CAMPS and strengthen the success of CAMPS members.  The CAMPS network has already generated business for our members and our strategy is to give them more of what they need to succeed in 2012 and beyond.

2. We are ready to build membership strategically and increase member participation. CAMPS is recruiting but we are looking for quality members that round out our current membership.  New membership will be companies that meet the criteria and are willing to commit to the level of participation CAMPS members expect.

 3. We are focusing on building a "Balanced Financial Model" to assure long-term sustainability.  CAMPS is looking at growing our membership revenue, we are expecting to see funds generated from the RFP process and the M2M program.  We are seeking grants which include partnering with other organizations and new program that are developing daily.

4. CAMPS is taking an industry driven leadership role to identify workforce needs and 21st Century solutions.  We surveyed members in the 4th quarter of 2011 and identified specific workforce needsCAMPS is currently developing an aggressive program to access candidates from the military that have the experience to fill the workforce needs of our membership.  The CAMPS CEO Council will continue to support FIRST Robotics and develop K-12 program to inspire our youth to take an interest in the manufacturing industry.

5. CAMPS will implement a communication program to inform and educate legislators and government agencies relating to issues impacting manufacturing businesses.  We continue working with Hebert Research and sharing information relating to the Washington Business Confidence Index through the CAMPS Connector newsletter.  We hope to open doors that get our membership involved with committees that directly relate to their business. We will invite legislators to our events and we will partner with organization that supports the CAMPS tracks.

With the gears always moving and as the clock is ticking CAMPS is sure to have a strategy to sustain business and help our membership grow with multiple levels of success in 2012 and beyond.

Strategies are the foundations, but the programs are where the "rubber meets the road".  We have put together a very full year and we encourage you to look at the new website www.camps-us.com .   Our Round Table events are listed with the content and locations.  We will be representing our members at various industry sector events, such as the Aerospace & Defense Suppler Summit Seattle, American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) events, Washington Biotechnical and Biomedical Association (WBBA) Conferences, and others as they arise.

The key is to provide visibility of the CAMPS member capabilities and how to connect. Workforce will continue to be a major initiative and the CEO Council has taken on the role to promote and support the FIRST Robotics Program to expose Manufacturing Career Pathways to high school students.  CAMPS also has taken a major step with the Military to Manufacturing (M2M) Career Pathways Program to help access and prepare our veterans to pursue meaningful careers in manufacturing and earn higher wages than those paid in non-manufacturing jobs.    As you can see, we are moving forward and more initiatives and ideas will emerge in 2012.

2012 Tech Expo  This year's Tech Expo will take place on Wednesday, January 18, 2012!

This event is a showcase for the Kent, Covington, and surrounding communities to understand the extensive use of technology in our schools and local area businesses.

You will see Kent School District students and teachers demonstrate how technology is used in their classrooms alongside local businesses showcasing technology in both traditional and nontraditional careers. This partnership provides students and community members a chance to see how technology skills acquired today, translate directly into future professions.

Technology isn't just about the latest fancy gadget; it is also about problem solving, creativity, basic education, and real world applications. Every child in America needs 21st century knowledge and skills to succeed as effective citizens, workers, and leaders. There is a profound gap between the knowledge and skills most students learn in school and the knowledge and skills they need in their future communities and workplaces. At the 2012 Tech Expo, you will see many student and teacher presentations with each integrating 21st century themes and/or skills into the teaching and learning of core academic subjects.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2012 Tech Expo!
