Naomi Less Concert

NAOMILESSROCKER NAOMI LESS ENTERTAINS AND EDUCATES AT AGNON

Combining a passion for music with her love for Judaism, Naomi Less brought her dynamic rock songs along with messages of empowerment and self-esteem to two Agnon programs as well as a lively benefit concert.

On Friday, November 5th, Naomi led a special Middle School program on bullying that was attended by Agnon, Schechter and Ratner Montessori students in grades 6 - 8.  After performing songs with messages of hope, strength and confidence, the group explored different roles that people play in bullying situations.  They also discussed various ways to resolve these situations.  In addition, Naomi entertained Agnon students during a special Kabbalat Shabbat assembly later that day.

Her benefit concert on Sunday, November 7th -- with a special appearance by the HaZamir Cleveland choir -- entertained as well as inspired the audience of 250. The concert was the third in a series dedicated to bringing quality Jewish music to Cleveland in memory of Merle & Arlene Gordon.  Funds raised provide scholarship assistance and aid educational programming.

tamirgoodmanBASKETBALL GREAT TAMIR GOODMAN COACHES AGNON JV AND VARSITY TEAMS

Dubbed the "Jewish Jordan" in high school by Sports Illustrated magazine, Tamir Goodman is coaching Agnon's boys Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball teams.

Tamar Gooldman Bball Clinic

He also taught teamwork at several co-ed Agnon basketball clinics for students in grades 2 - 8.  Agnon students were introduced to Goodman at a school assembly where he spoke to students about the inseparable roles that basketball and Judaism play in his life.

Goodman, an Orthodox Jew and grandson of a Holocaust survivor, grew up in Baltimore.  He gained national media attention in high school and was rated one of the country's top 25 high school players. After high school, the 6-foot-3 Goodman turned down a scholarship to play at top-ranked University of Maryland because their schedule required him to play on Shabbat.  Left without a college to attend, Goodman says a "miracle" transpired: The basketball players and coaches at Towson State University, a Division I school near Baltimore, learned about Goodman's dilemma and offered him an athletic scholarship, changing their conference schedule so most games wouldn't be on STamir Goodman clinichabbat.

After college, Goodman signed with Euro League champion Maccabi Tel Aviv.  He played professional basketball in Israel for five seasons, reaching the Israeli Cup finals and Israeli Premier League semifinals in 2003 and 2009.

Today, the 28-year-old Goodman resides in Cleveland with his wife (a native Clevelander) and their three children.  President of Tamir Goodman Sports Consultant, LLC, he coaches children of all ages and skill levels at basketball clinics and camps.  Goodman effectively motivates youths by teaching both fundamental and advanced basketball skills while promoting an enjoyable atmosphere that stresses teamwork, respect and hard work.

studycircleNEW PROGRAM:  MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDY CIRCLES
by Diane Lavin, Middle School teacher

Middle School students work hard.  Homework, projects, papers, quizzes and tests combine to create a serious work load for them.  This year, we have a Diane Lavin in Study Circlefabulous opportunity to provide support for the successful engagement in and completion of this work:  Study Circles.

Every day after school, Monday through Friday, middle school students can go to the computer lab and complete their homework with the support and supervision of one of their teachers.  Study Circles run from 3:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and students are welcome to attend all or part of that time. The atmosphere is focused, quiet and productive.  Faculty assignments are as follows:

Study Circle Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 3:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Each faculty member has multiple areas of expertise and is happy to work individually with students or simply provide the right atmosphere for productive work.

Please encourage your son or daughter to come to Study Circles -- perhaps for extra help, perhaps to complete their homework before they go home or perhaps to learn study strategies and organizational skills.  Whatever the reason, we are here to help!
