Bloom of the Month

Cistanthe Tweedyi

tweedyiCistanthe tweedyi (formerly Lewisia tweedyi) is a species of flowering plant in the Montiaceae family. It is endemic to western North America in north-central Washington and adjacent British Columbia.

A robust, fleshy, perennial herb from a large, thick, reddish and fleshy taproot. The flowers are up to 3 inches across and are salmon to yellowish-pink in color. It blooms from May to July depending on the elevation.

The nursery trade has taken some interest in cultivating Cistanthe

Gardening Tips for May

"Transplants become
less stressed when they
are set out on a cloudy,
calm day. Unfortunately,
gardeners

may need to transplant
when they have the time,
regardless of the weather.
Strong sun and wind are

hard on new transplants,
so set out plants in the late
afternoon when the wind
calms down and the plants

have overnight to acclimate.
Provide shade and wind
protection with berry
baskets, small crates, or

screens. Mulching helps
since it lowers the rate at
which water evaporates
from the soil and controls the

soil temperature."

Support Your Local Legacy

Imagine a world where you and family/friends, or just even yourself, could escape to a lush garden with breathtaking views and tranquil pools of still waters. This evergreen oasis, just a few minutes from Wenatchee, showcases rare native plants and has thrived over 80 years of history. A man-made paradise, the Gardens were built by a family who had a passion for the beauty of the outdoor world. Sit on stone benches and listen to trees sway in the wind, observe flowers of every color, be still and silent away from the chaos of everyday life.

More specifically, funds from this year's season passes will go towards the Informational Kiosk and panels, located at the Entrance to the Gardens. The panels will display information about the history and plants of Ohme Gardens.
