Greetings!
Father's Day Fun Father's Day Putt-Putt Golf was a BIG hit! We had a really good turnout throughout the day. Lots of families came up with Dad and had a fun time navigating the course and putting their way through nine holes. Another thank you to our generous golf sponsors who donated spectacular prizes for the drawing that participants entered. The Father's Day Fun Sponsors were: Leavenworth Golf Course, Kahler Glen Golf Course, Three Lakes Golf Course, Bear Mountain Ranch Golf Course, Enzian Inn, Icicle Junction, Wenatchee Golf and Country Club, Highlander Golf Club, Desert Canyon Golf Course, Rock Island Golf Course, Crescent Bar Golf Course, and Hooked on Toys.
July Events Sally Brawley rounded up a great line-up for our 2nd Annual Summer Music Series which begins July 1st and runs through the end of August. The 8th Annual Wine & Food Gala will also be held this year at Ohme Gardens. Thanks to Jan Lutz for her exceptional efforts organizing this year's Gala, there are going to be some great pairings of wineries and food establishments at this special annual event. Come and enjoy the summer fun planned at Ohme Gardens this season. Sincerely, Mike Short Garden Administrator |

The Friends' are an active group that raises money for special projects for the Gardens.
4th of July Raffle
On the Fourth of July, you can be the lucky winner of a catered dinner for 10 and exclusive use of the Gardens for watching the fireworks. Even better than last year (which was a huge success), the winner and nine guests get a private guided tour of the pyrotechnic display at Walla Walla Point before dinner. What a treat! $5 provides your chance to win and supports the Friends' efforts to raise funds for evening lighting of the Gardens' trails. Get your tickets from the Gardens, Eastmont Pharmacy or the Kitchen Sync. The drawing will not be until June 1, 2011. Our goal for this raffle is to raise $5,000. Please support this project. Only 1000 tickets will be sold.
Art in the Gardens Read on in this newsletter for all the details about this year's art classes organized by the hard working Ginger Spice-Hendrickson. These two day art classes, 3 hours each day, will be a way to treat your budding artists. The class fee pays for supplies and supports the Friends' projects. The best part is that kids have fun in the Gardens. Four of the classes are arranged as family events. Look for the ones titled Mommy and Me. |

About Tastebuds Stepping into Tastebuds is like visiting the Wenatchee version of "Cheers". From the moment you walk through the doors, you'll feel the hectic world outside disappear as you take in the delicious aromas, welcoming faces and relaxing atmosphere. Our Jiffy Java customers wanted a place to sit, relax and enjoy their coffee. And as it turned out, one of our loyal customers owns the Mission Street Plaza, suggesting that it could be a great location for our second shop. We also decided we needed to add a service that would allow our customers to stay later than normal-so we added a wine list. The ultimate goal at Tastebuds is to pamper you with great wine and coffee in a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Tastebuds is here to answer all of your questions, and to make your experience exceed all expectations.

July Gardening Tips
Water early and late in the day to reduce water loss from evaporation. Adjust sprinklers to avoid wasting water on driveways and sidewalks. Water long enough to soak the top 8"- 12" of topsoil and stop watering if water is running off due to soil saturation.
Containers dry out faster than plants in the ground and sometimes need daily watering as plants grow larger and if the weather is hot and windy. Hanging baskets dry out the fastest and frequently require daily watering. Frequent watering to the point where water runs out of the drain holes in containers will leach out fertilizer and plants may start to have yellow or purplish foliage and fewer flowers. It is a good idea to use a water soluble fertilizer at the label rate every week to keep container gardens and hanging basket plants growing and healthy.
Deadhead large flowered plants such as geraniums and lilies to prevent seed formation, encourage re-bloom and keep plants more attractive. Stake tall, floppy plants such as delphiniums and dahlias. Don't be afraid to cut flowers for indoor bouquets and arrangements. |

Featured Bloom of the Month
CAMPANULA Bellflower
One of the best-loved perennials, there is a Campanula to fit almost any situation. They can be creeping or erect, short or tall. The flowers can be stars, bells or tubular in shape, and come in a wide range of colors. They thrive in full sun or partial shade with well-drained, fertile soil, and are suitable for borders, rockeries and containers. |
