Welcome to our monthly newsletter.

April showers bring May flowers...and lots of food and fun!

Spring is SO wonderful in Austin- IF you can get past the pesky allergies!  It is a blessing and a curse to have rich soil and a long spring season.  We get the benefits of luscious vegetables, healthy animals, and beautiful landscapes but we're also sniffling and sneezing for months on end.  Despite my pollen sensitivities, I've planted my spring garden and our family has already clocked many hours outside since spring arrived!

At Slow Food Austin we get outside as much as possible in the spring.  Our 3rd Thursday happy hour will be at various local farms for the next few months and our spring farm tour series is in full swing.  If you need to balance your outside time with some indoor activities, please join us for our slow session on the 2nd Monday of each month.

Slow Food Austin is about educating our community about where food comes from and how it influences quality of life.  Spring is a time when I feel so grateful for all the beautiful fresh food we can get in Austin.  If you are passionate about the joys of food, we encourage you to see spring as the ideal season to share your passion with a friend, neighbor, stranger, or loved-one. I challenge you to reach out to a non-foodie!  You could change someone's life by influencing their relationship with food.

If you are interested in volunteering to help with board responsibilities, don't hesitate to email meWe are currently interested in adding a volunteer coordinator to our board and looking for someone to take on this new position.

Slow Food USA has recently launched a campaign to pressure the EPA to take action on the bee disappearance.  The EPA has been dragging its feet because of strong lobby from the pesticide companies.  We need to counter the pesticide lobby's pressure and hold the EPA to that commitment, by sending them a message they can't ignore:

Pure Luck Goat Dairy Farm Tour

Date: Sunday May 15th 11 am - 2pm

Location:  Dripping Springs

Slow Food Austin heads to Dripping Springs for a rare opportunity - an inside look at Pure Luck Farm and Dairy. This 100-goat Central Texas gem has been producing nationally award-winning goat cheeses for many years, and if you've perused any Austin cheese case worth its salt, you've seen their signature herb or pepper-crusted creamy chevre. Pure Luck no longer offers tours to the general public, so we're in, well, luck! Tastings and a little something to take home are included in the ticket price of $25. Antonelli's Cheese Shop is supporting this tour and will contribute some tasty items as well. This one will go fast, so RSVP quickly to BetsyL@slowfoodaustin.org
