Dance for Parkinson's Disease: A Wonderful Afternoon

Dance PD

Last month, DanceVision and The Parkinson Alliance hosted an event that had close to 50 people with Parkinson's disease and their partners, caregivers and friends dancing at the studio. Dance for Parkinson's Disease (Dance for PD) is a collaboration between the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Alliance. Thanks to the vision and enthusiasm of Marie Alonzo Snyder, these organizations worked with DanceVision to bring this class to PDT.  David Leventhal and John Heginbotham, co-founders of the program and dancers with the Mark Morris company, led the group through various dance movements including  the "name game", movements from some of the Mark Morris repertory and a final circle where they all acknowledged one another. This pilot was a great success, and we hope that classes will become a monthly occurrence at PDT.

Drew Nelson performs at the Guggenheim

Drew Nelson

It was a great pleasure watching an all-grown-up Drew Nelson perform in a Works & Process presentation on how judges evaluate competitors for the Youth America Grand Prix. It was presented American Idol style, whereby the the heads of ABT, Royal Ballet and Ballet West schools each gave their view after each dancer's performance. You can watch Drew's performance and hear the judges comment at the one hour mark by visiting: -http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/13164978#utm_campaign=unknown&utm_source=13164978&utm_medium=social  Drew will be competing at the YAGP finals at City Center in New York City mid-March.

Sarah Hay

Congratulations to Sarah Hay, who had received a corps de ballet contract for Dresden Ballet in November and has just been chosen to dance the lead role of Cinderella in Stijn Celis' ballet, Cinderella. Sarah had been an apprentice at PA Ballet for almost two years, prior to the contract. This highlights how, along with great talent and hard work, finding the right "fit" is key to great success.
