Greetings!

Everytime I walk into PDT studio, I am overwhelmed with gratitude, and I am continually amazed with the atmosphere of the place.  Initially, I was immediately struck with the both the quality of the training - I knew enough to watch the senior students, but more importantly, with the nurturing environment here. The staff care about the students, each contributing something greatly significant in their training, and the students are supportive of each other, and oddly, I find that bizarrely correct and welcome.

It has been 2 years, and I am still amazed.  Consider me a selfish busy-body, but I jump for joy every time I hear (read evesdrop),  that a student got accepted into a Summer program, or a University.  I get excited when my kid's teacher is setting a piece for a major ballet company, or is teaching a gig in a foreign land, or is doing a show locally,  To the doer, these may not seem incredible feats of genious, but to me, they are great causes for celebration, as it reinforces my notion that PDT is a place where art lives.  And I am happy to be part of that for another good many years.

However, art does not thrive in a vacuum, so we launch 'Dance and Theater News from Rockingham Row'.  This way, everyone in PDT, is 'in the know', and the circle for evesdropping is extended just a little farther.

Enjoy,
Amy

PDT Logo Sometimes it happens, that we seem to take things for granted, or are slow to show appreciation in a meaningful way.  PDT has been incredibly fortunate to attract excellent students, but we also work with some of the top talent as faculty.

Special gratitude to our current faculty who each bring something amazing to our school.   Samantha Tager brings new energy and directs our youngest students with patience; Alison Maxwell brings British grace from RAB; Ilana Suprin Clyde, a passion for movement; Matt Williams, a rising star Broadway choreographer who is funny, nice and challenging;  Lisa Bottalico, always fiery in her Flamenco classes; Karen Callaway Williams, teaching Rhythm Tap like none other; Tom Mckie teaching the most authentic Hip Hop you could ever find; Michael Kubala, teaching from experience working directly with Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins; Henri Velandia, patiently instructing ballet and Ballroom for Kids,     Linda Mannheim, always kind and patient teaching Stretch and Pilates, and next year Modern; and Pamela Mingle, warmly teaching adults, and next year teaching in our regular student classes.

We have had several guest teachers this year.  Most notable have included ballet legends such as Cynthia Gregory, Robert Hill, and Stephanie Saland.

Our studio has flourished beyond our dreams because of the trust our students and their families have placed in us to provide the best training possible.  Thank you for the priviledge of allowing us to do what we love to do most.

Warmly,
Risa Kaplowitz

DanceVision: LEAP INTO SPRING!
By Valerie Martone, Vice President, DanceVision Board of Directors

PDT LogoIf the season tells you that springtime is just around the corner, then you can be sure The Secret Garden, choreographed by Risa Kaplowitz, is once again about to be performed in the local theaters.  This year, performances will be held at the Performing Arts Center at Montgomery High School in Skillman, NJ on April 4th at 2 PM and 7 PM.  The show moves to the new theater at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South in West Windsor, NJ on April 19th at 3 PM.

One of the more obvious signs that we are getting closer to the performances of The Secret Garden is our bi-annual Barnes & Noble Book Fair, held at the Princeton Market Fair Mall. While this will be DanceVision's third Barnes & Noble Book Fair, I do have some highlights that I'd like to share with you.  We are fortunate to have Ms. Kaplowitz reading from the book The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and to also have the illustrator of the children's version of that book, Lucy Corvino, be our guest at the book signing portion of this Book Fair. Ms. Corvino has graciously offered to donate the original cover art which she created for the children's version of The Secret Garden, published by Sterling, for DanceVision to auction. The one or two new illustrations she will do just for DanceVision are Ms. Corvino's gift for inviting her to be a part of our Barnes & Noble Book Fair and help her sell copies of the book she illustrated for Sterling Publishing.

Please join us on March 28, 2009 at 2:00 for dance excerpts from The Secret Garden, as we again enjoy the talents and hard work of our wonderful, young dancers.  Shop all day, mention "DanceVision" and a percentage of your purchases will be donated to DanceVision by Barnes & Noble.  This also includes café purchases. Bring your kids, your neighbors, and your friends.  We look forward to seeing you there!
