June 28, 1969: NYC police raid a Greenwich Village gay bar, The Stonewall Inn. For the first time, patrons refuse to be led into paddy wagons, setting off a 3-day riot that launches the Gay Rights Movement. Oklahomans for Equality (OkEq) Annual Meeting & Board of Directors Elections
| The annual meeting of Oklahomans for Equality shall be held at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center on September 30th, 2010 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Presently, eight Board of Director spaces are up for election. Nominations to the Board of Directors are made in one of two ways:
- Recommended by the Board Development and Governance Committee (Applications due to OkEq by August 1st) OR
- By petition of at least 15 current OkEq members (Due to the OkEq Secretary by September 15th)
At this time the Board Development and Governance Committee (BDG) is accepting applications for possible BDG nominations of those members interested in serving the OkEq community as a Director. Eight directors will be elected. Please contact Lucas.Green@okeq.orgfor an application and to interview with the Board of Development and Governance Committee if you desire to be nominated by the Board of Development and Governance Committee.
Requirements and Expectations of a Director: Be a current OkEq Member Attend Board Meetings on the third Thursday of each month Contribute talent, time, energy toward supporting the mission of OkEq Work additional assignments as required (Assignments are usually made pursuant to the particular knowledge, skills and abilities of a Director) Serve a two year term

Rise Up Singing

"Rise Up Singing!" is a cross-cultural, interdenominational event designed to bring people of all backgrounds together held at Congregation B'nai Emunah 1719 South Owasso Tulsa, Oklahoma 74120. The evening's playlist will be led by singers who love the music of our shared roots. The difference is that everyone will be singing together from the classic American songbook. She is seeking home videos by LGBT parents and families from around the globe to compile this feature documentary. | Feast With Friends Saturday, July 24th:

"Feast with FriendsŪ" is an at-home fundraiser where individuals and groups host dinner parties in their homes, workplaces and faith communities on Saturday evening, July 24. In exchange, their guests make a donation to Tulsa CARES whose mission is "Delivering social services to people affected by HIV/AIDS" in northeastern Oklahoma. After dinner, all hosts and their guests are invited to the fabulous "Dessert Extravaganza" from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Central Community Center, 1028 E. Sixth St. Non-alcoholic beverages and dessert are provided to guests. Those not attending a dinner may participate in the dessert event for a $10 donation at the door.

The Equality Business Association (EBA) is now accepting applications for membership. As a member of the EBA you will have your business listed in the EBA Directory that will be viewable to all who visit the EBA web site. This directory will provide our community with a list of businesses and services to patronize that support our community.

Cooling Station

The Dennis R. Neill Equality Center has been designated as a cooling station in coordination with the City of Tulsa and Tulsa County Health Department. Due to the higher than expected temperatures citizens of Tulsa County who do not have air conditioning will need designated areas to get out of the heat. Your community center is now open and serving your Tulsa neighbors. The Center is open from 10 am to 9 pm as a cooling station. If you would like to volunteer to help cover the additional hours the Equality Center will be open or donate a bag of ice so we can provide ice water free of charge to our guests please contact Lucas.Green@okeq.org |
