Town Hall Rally
a 35 year journey to equality
Thursday June 17th: 6pm - 10pm
Oklahomans for Equality invites you to a Town Hall Rally at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center. Join us as we watch live coverage of the Tulsa City Council meeting as they vote on a City of Tulsa employee non discrimination policy adding sexual orientation. In 1975, then Mayor Robert Lafortune commissioned a report that recommended the city adopt this policy, the report was rejected.  In 1994 the Tulsa Gay community participated in formal hearings requesting this policy only to be denied again. For the last 15 years the City of Tulsa Human Rights Commission has recommended that Tulsa adopt an inclusive policy.  Kris Wilmes with Oklahomans for Equality in collaboration with Nancy McDonald of PFLAG Tulsa and Alice Blue and Tommy Chesbro of the City of Tulsa Human Rights Commission have worked with City Councilor GT Bynum and City Councilor Maria Barnes to bring this to a formal vote by the Tulsa City Council scheduled for Thursday night.   Join us as we await their decision. Drinks and refreshments will be provided.
