Thank You Rev. Lavanhar
Marlin LavanharOklahomans for Equality expresses our deep gratitude to Rev. Marlin Lavanhar, president of Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry and senior minister at All Souls Unitarian Church who traveled to Uganda to speak against a controversial bill that would allow the death penalty for certain same-sex behavior. Homosexual behavior is already illegal in Uganda, carrying prison sentences of up to 14 years. President of Oklahomans for Equality Toby Jenkins said

"Rev Lavanhar is a champion for the victims of discrimnation and imitates the great faith leaders of the past. He heard the cries of an oppressed and doomed people and left the comfort and security of his homeland and has denounced religious and cruel homophobia dressed in government policy."

Concert for Equality

Vicki Genfen'Rebecca Ungerman Presents: Vicki Genfan in Concert"  at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center located at 621 East 4th Street on Wednesday, February 24th at 7:30 pm

Vicki Genfan won the title of Guitar Superstar in the 2008 competition sponsored by Guitar Player Magazine. Jim Fusilli (Wall Street Journal) said, "It's a stunning victory, a barrier shattered. Guitar Player is a male dominated Domain.  Ms. Genfan plays an acoustic guitar without effects."
Using 29 alternate tunings and the percussive technique she calls 'slap-tap', Vicki creates waves of sound with two hands and her voice. Drawing from folk, jazz, pop, soul and world music, whether covering the tunes of others or presenting her own compositions, Vicki has a distinctive style that is pushing the boundaries of the singer/songwriter genre.

Thursday, Feb. 25th : 7pm
You are invited to the Beyond Apologetics Symposium, a gathering of North American pastors and scholars committed to developing a new generation of thought and practice for ministry with transgendered, bisexual, lesbian and gay people. The Symposium creates conversations among scholars, practitioners and broader communities who have mutual concerns about the health and well-being of LGBT people. The spiritual and theological practices and understandings that emerge from the project-focused on gender, identity, sexuality, and community action-have the potential to benefit people of all sexual orientations.

2010 Census Partner
CensusOklahomans for Equality will be a 2010 Census Partner. We have formally pledged our commitment to share the 2010 Census message and mobilize our lgbt community in support of the Census Bureau's goal of achieving a complete count.

The 2010 Census in the United States will count gay married couples for the first time in US history.  The questionnaire format will remain unchanged, offering the choice of "husband or wife" and "unmarried partner" to describe a household relationship. Oklahomans for Equality is advising same-sex married couples to check the married instead of the unmarried partner.
Before 2000, there was no option for married same-sex couples on the census form. If a gay partner checked "husband or wife", the census bureau altered what they assumed to be an error in designating gender. Since 2000, married same-sex couples could only designate themselves as "unmarried partners". By law the census ensures confidentiality.
