Oklahomans For Equality Goes To Washington
October 10th & 11th, 2009
National Equality March Oklahomans for Equality is pleased to announce that thirty (30) proud Oklahomans will be joining the Equality March this Sunday in Washington D.C. The Oklahoma lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community will be represented by a diverse group and participants will be displaying the state flag while marching.

Toby Jenkins, President of Oklahomans for Equality says "We want to be counted among the 50 states requesting equal protection as guaranteed under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.  It is an honor to march representing our people. We are encouraged knowing we have the support of leading citizens from the city of Tulsa."

"I proudly and unequivocally support full equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people," says Lynn Schusterman, a leading Tulsa-based philanthropist. "I believe it is vitally important to create and support initiatives that meet the needs, interests and concerns of the LGBT community so that we can build a more welcoming society-one that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusiveness. I am proud of my fellow Oklahomans who are marching today as a united contingent on behalf of this vision."

We believe;
All Oklahomans should have a right to work their jobs and go to school free of harassment and discrimination.

All Oklahomans should have a right to live their lives in safety guaranteed that hate crime perpetrators will be prosecuted and the punishment will equal the crime.

All Oklahomans should have a right to marry the person they love and are entitled to the federal and state benefits conferred on couples granted a marriage license.

All Oklahomans should have the right when serving in the military defending our country and our freedoms to live open and honest lives in regards to whom they love.

The National Equality March will demand full equality on the door step of the Congress of the United States of America.

Thursday October 7th, 2009
WASHINGTON - The House voted Thursday October 7th, 2009 to make it a federal crime to assault people because of their sexual orientation, significantly expanding the U.S. hate crimes law enacted in the days after the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. With expected passage by the Senate, federal prosecutors will for the first time be able to intervene in cases of violence perpetrated against gays.
