Adopt-A-ParkSpring Kick-off for Adopt-A-Park Program Taking your family to one of the City of Sparks' dozens of parks is a convenient and cost-efficient way to have a lot of fun amid the beauty of the outdoors. For more than a decade, the city's Adopt-A-Park program has been a vital resource for maintaining the 576-acre parks system and promoting community spirit and pride. In 2009, 14 organizations logged close to 1,000 volunteer hours, removing weeds and trash and performing necessary painting and playground care. Participating groups receive acknowledgement with a sign placed at the park, as well as a listing in the parks and recreation seasonal activity guide. The city is currently recruiting more organizations to assist with the inventory of 20 parks still available for adoption. Learn more
Adapted AquaticsGrant Support Makes Adaptive Aquatics Program Possible  Many local residents have benefited from the Adapted Aquatics program offered at the Alf Sorensen Community Center in Sparks. The interactive, water exercise rehabilitation class is the only one of its kind in the area available year-round to anyone with a physical or mental limitation. The program was in jeopardy of being cut last year, until The Nell J. Redfield Foundation stepped forward to provide funding that will continue through 2010. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. The cost is $2 per day. Details: 353.2385.
GolfGolf Lessons for All Ages  With spring just around the corner, it's time for golf! The City of Sparks is offering golf lessons at D'Andrea Golf Club and Wildcreek Golf Course starting at the end of March. The diverse classes encourage not only learning, but fun, socialization, and family bonding through a lifelong sport. Lessons include sections for adults only, adult-beginners only, senior and mixed child/adult. The one-hour classes will take place on Wednesday or Thursday evenings, or Tuesday mornings for seniors. Don't miss the fun. Details on dates/rates
Spring Break
Spring Vacation Fun An exciting time is in store for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade who participate in this five-day program during the spring break, April 12-16. There will be organized games, arts/crafts, swimming and field trips, all of which are included in the registration fee. Program enrollment is limited to 180 children, so early registration is recommended. Drop-ins will be taken on a space available basis only.
