Story of the Week

Michelle's Story

Greetings! ,

Do you remember this quote from last week?

In total from the Calaveras and Oxnard HomeTown trips,

85 students came to Christ last week.

It should look familiar. Please continue to pray for the 85 students who received Christ during the 2 HomeTown trips. We are still excited about the fruit that came from those trips, and we want to continue to share what happened. Staff member Betsy Yee shares a story about witnessing at Pacifica High School during the Oxnard HomeTown trip:

"One day, while we were preparing to go witnessing after school at Pacifica High School, two girls showed up. They were both named Michelle and neither had been witnessing before. We decided to split the Michelles up and I took one Michelle and a leader from our team, Alex, took the other.

As we walked into the school I began asking Michelle about herself and why she had decided to go witnessing with us. She told me that a few months earlier, one of her friends had invited her to church and she saw a Jesus film. She immediately knew that she wanted that kind of unconditional love and accepted Christ that night. Since then, Michelle's life has changed so much that her mom has started asking her if she could find the Jesus film so that she could watch it too. Michelle has also led one other person to the Lord since becoming a Christian. She loves sharing Jesus with people and had heard an announcement in the Christian club about witnessing and decided to come.

I was so amazed by Michelle's impact on the people around her, I asked her when the other Michelle had become a Christian and if they had been friends long. Michelle responded, "Oh, Michelle is not a Christian. I actually brought her so that you could help me share Jesus with her. I'm kind of bummed that we got separated."

Yes, I had sent a non-Christian witnessing on a high school campus. I cannot even begin to describe my feelings of horror and embarrassment. I whipped out my phone and texted Alex the situation, praying that they hadn't talked to anyone yet.

A few minutes later, Michelle and I caught up with Alex and the other Michelle. As we walked up, they were bowing their heads to pray. It turns out that the first (and only) conversation Alex and Michelle had while witnessing was with two Christian girls. They ended up talking for several minutes about the peace and joy that God gives. When they were done talking to them, Alex received my text and asked Michelle if she was interested in God's peace and joy. Michelle said yes and we all got to pray with her as she invited Christ to be her savior.

So, what I thought was one of the biggest mistakes of my HomeTown trip, God used for good. He gave Michelle the heart to reach her friends. He placed Alex and the other Michelle together. He led them to two Christian girls who were ready to talk about how God changes our life for the better. In the end, it wasn't such a bad thing to send a non-Christian witnessing."
