Story of the Week
Roosevelt's Rally
Greetings! ,
Roosevelt High School's Bible club organized a series of eight rallies that took place every day last week. Partnering with the organization, Bible Clubs United (BCU) the students put on their largest rally on Thursday afternoon, drawing in a crowd of about 300 students - 20 of whom made decisions for Christ.
The Gospel was proclaimed multiple times throughout the rally between BCU's rappers and hip hop dancers sharing their testimonies, issuing challenges and inviting students to make decisions in two altar calls.
"I would guess that everybody who came got the chance to hear it," said Roosevelt's CSP mentor Jack Franicevich.
The Bible's club's faculty advisor, Sal Quezada, got members of his church involved who served by donating and cooking hundreds of hotdogs and staffing tables.
"The week-long rally was definitely an event that was produced and supported not only by the students, but by people from churches, supporters and volunteers that came in and helped us," said Sal. "It was really great."
Sal is retiring from Roosevelt this June after many years of teaching AP Calculus and 12 years of advising the Bible Club of which he was actually the primary founder.
"I said, 'Roosevelt High School needs a Bible club as another option,'" said Sal.
"I think sometimes God just says, 'You take steps toward me and then I will provide and supply and support you.'"
According to Sal, one of the major ways God did provide was through the encouragement and work of CSP.
"CSP has been a great resource for us, encouraging students to be bold and offering resources and letting them meet [Biola students], seeing what passion they have to be faithful to God and spread the Word," said Sal. "That's encouraging for students to see they're not alone out there."
"[Sal] has a huge heart for the campus so I can see it being really hard for him to leave especially with such a great Bible club there - but hey, seeing 300 people come to a rally that his students put on and seeing 20 kids come to Christ - you couldn't dream of that happening and it's great for him to be able to see that," said Jack.
