The first two people that they talked to were "seed planting conversations" according to Lainey. They shared the gospel with a Buddhist girl and a Mormon girl "who weren't super excited, but were willing to talk and listen."
But the 3rd conversation blew them away.
Carmen* is a high school Senior at Lakewood.
As Lainey and Natalie talked with her, they learned that her grandmother - the most religious person in her life - passed away this year. "She respected her grandmother a lot, and was asking questions like, 'Why would God allow a woman like that to die?"
Lainey explains the conversation that followed
I asked her, "Why are you Catholic?" She said "It makes people moral, and it makes me happy."
Then I explained why I'm a Christian; I was made to be a worshipper, so it's satisfying and fulfilling. The second reason is because I was saved - that was my opening to share the gospel with her.
"Is that [the gospel story] something you've ever heard before?" "No, not like that" was Carmen's response. "Would you like to know Jesus personally?"
She said "Yes!"
The big thing for me is recognizing that this was her first time introduction to Christ. And everyone needs that first time introduction. Now it's the process of her getting to know God more; and through the people in her life and the Christian club on Campus she can grow to understand Jesus more and understand the Gospel more fully.
She said she knows 1 Christian. We told her about the Christian Club on campus at Lakewood, and gave her our contact info.
Neither Natalie nor Lainey had ever led someone to Christ before. "I was very surprised" says Lainey. "Her immediate response was 'Yes'. In my head I was saying 'What? You don't want to ask more questions?' But something really stirred in her and she was ready to accept Jesus!"
"It was a really cool experience; I couldn't stop smiling."
