Insider's Link to Productivity Newsletter          December 2010

Happy New Year! Although the outlook for 2011 is still considered to be bleak by many economists, it is important that we stay true to our values as individuals and organizations as we continue to weather the storm.

In this edition of the Insider's Link to Productivity, we review social responsibility - the principle that companies should contribute to the welfare of society and not be solely devoted to maximizing profits. As a socially responsible consulting firm, our consultants and leaders donate their services to non-profit organizations each year. It is our honor to feature Layne Christensen Company in the Client Spotlight section of this month's newsletter for their contribution to the Chilean Miner Rescue in October of 2010.

Also in this edition, John Wittry, Partner and McGhee Executive Consultant, addresses the challenges associated with leveraging technology to manage productivity.

by: John Wittry, Partner and McGhee Executive Consultant

The flippant, but somewhat serious, answer is managing all of the chargers! Actually, the real answer is managing people’s belief system as it relates to technology. Those that choose to believe that technology can help them, make life better, improve their focus, and enhance their productivity often create that result. They are accepting of technology and the benefit it can provide them.

Unfortunately, there are those who believe that technology is an interruption, forcing an ‘always on’ society. They experience it as impersonal and complicated, along with a host of other negative paradigms. They resist technology or approach it as a have to, rarely embracing it...
